trouble shooting air brakes on 93 spartan

My 93 airstream pusher has been parked for 2 years while I restore the coach. The air brakes will no longer pump up air. Where do I look for the compressor and what steps do I take to get them working? Thanks

I am not familiar with an Airstream pusher, I assume it is diesel. If so, the compressor will be located on the side, at the frornt of the engine, normally gear driven.. If it does nor build any pressure, it may have a bad govenor. These are universal and availabe at any heavy duty truck parts supplier and dealership.Cost is usually around 20.00 and easy to replace with a minimal of tools and experience. The govenor controls the amount of air pressure in your reserve tanks, when the pressure is down, the govenor activaates the compressor and it usually builds 120 pounds and then shuts off. All that I am telling you is the way it is on an 18 wheeler and I wowuld be surprised if your pusher was any different. Befor you remove the govenor, try tapping it lightly with a hammer, sometimes they stick, good wishes, old trucker.

trouble shooting air brakes on Spartan chassis

Located the compressor, thanks to old trucker, on my Cummins series B diesel in my pusher Airstream and will try what was suggested. I would like to get my hands on a manual for serviceing the whole brake system on this machine. Thanks

In my experience when the governor sticks it builds up to around 30 lbs but won't go higher. Pump the pedal to blead off all pressure then start it up and try it again. If pump is on front of engine it will be hard to get to. I think releaving pressure on the governor often cures the problem but once it starts having this problem it will probably start happening more often. If nothing else hitting it with a hammer will make you feel better. I find the 3 lb brass hammer I use for thumping tires works well.
