Thanks for everyone's input and sorry I didn't do the obvious first.
Use Lucas Hub Oil Any truck stop should have it,or Truck Pro or Fleetpride.
The Hubcap is also available at Truck Pro, Fleetpride cost about 30 bucks you can also just buy replacement rubber fill plugs.Lucas is what I run in my Peterbilt. If you need to replace the hub cap just roll that wheel up on a wood block or something and let it sit for a few and the oil will drain into the hub and you wont lose too much when you unbolt the cover after the cover is replaced roll unit off block and fill hub to line on cover sight window.

I doubt if it matter but my freightliner instructions call for Hypoid gear oil.

I called Spartan and was told that any 80 - 90 wt non-synthetic oil will do. But I was wondering about those plugs. I'll be overnighting in a Flying J on Wednesday and will look for them there. Thanks for the info.

Wheeeee...now that we have all the terms sorted out, I think we are talking about the same things. Couple of observations: 1] the red caps get old and loose their elasticity so they should be replaced; 2] the gasket on the 6-bolt outside Stemco hub cover can also start leaking; 3] you can change / exchange some of the oil but much, if not most of it, remains in the hollow of the wheel hub; the inner seal can leak but that shows up on the inside of the wheel or on the brakes; and 5] overtime, the wheel bearing can get sloopy so bearing pre-load should be checked from time to time [a sloppy bearing can impact on the inner seal].

Here is an old post http://www.irv2.com/forums/f103/left...ak-107860.html

The vent hole in the rubber plug can get plugged and cause the rubber plug to blow out.

The problem we found on our 04 Essex with wheel seals leaking is to only fill till the the bottom level with oil. Put a very light amount of silicone on the plastic cover.
