PS: Mountainkowboy, I too enjoyed that movie, Wild Hogs. At first I didn't think it would be very good, I guess I imagined it as an "Everyman's Easyrider," but once it began its story I laughed and laughed!!!

I suppose 40 years from now the same will be said about the '09 models.
A buddy of mine has a shirt that says "Ducati, making mechanics out of riders since 1947."

He usually wears it when he rides his......You guessed it, 2005 Ducati 749.

Your friend raced those back in the forties? How does he walk with all that hanging between his legs?

Youtube "Isle of mann TT history" if you want to see guys that had real balls or were crazy. Leather helmet, sweater, suspension, tire and brake technology of the day. That is unreal to watch.

We have much better technology and faster bikes, but those guys were going plenty fast with pretty much nothing.

What a nice looking BMW. I can remember the first time I saw one, circa 1966. I had just sold my BSA Lightning and picked up a 66 Sportster because it was more reliable and fast for the day. I vibrated over to the Blue Ridge from Ft Bragg and had a ball. While there an older, to this 19 y/o, gentleman rode up on a BMW. I had never seen one before and just stared at those beautiful jugs. We chatted and he seemed to be a refined man compared to this brash young paratrooper. The bike was more than likely an R60 but it did leave an impression. I filed the encounter under the strange file as the bikes were rare in those days. The years passed and I saw many bikes, including Moto Guzzi's, but not BMW's. 1978 rolled in and I crashed my 1976 Z1. The pitfalls of power, poor suspension, a flexiframe in the hands of a foolish man conspire to make for the wheel wobble express at 100+ mph. Located a BMW at Berdic(sp) Motorcycles in Rhode Island. It was an R100/7 with a Luftmeister Fairing supplied by BMW. BMW proved to be the benchmark for all other motorcycles in my minds eye.
Excellent choice
Phil

Ahhhhh, loving this thread (and new forum!). When I was looking for DH (yes, I was looking specifically for him), a Harley and a safe driver had to be part of the picture. Two Harleys later, our bike of choice now is a BMW K1200LT (cause I have a throne and a sound system, and he loves the way it rides like a crotch rocket)... but it was a bit heartbreaking to have to sell the '06 Scramin' Eagle V-Rod (downsizing and all...). I trust we will own another Harley at some point, because they're FUN! We've been fortunate to have had many bikes through the years, they're all good.

I want to know how who is taking your awesome road pics, Rusty!!!

I have to give credit where credit is due. BMW makes some excellent touring bikes.

I used to ride in a motorcycle club where one of the requirements was to own a Harley to gain membership. However, once in I knew a few brothers who liked to ride their BMWs. And when they traveled to Europe they would rent BMWs instead of crating their Harley's and sending them by ship.

Have never riden a BMW, would like to but never have. Had a Norton, a bunch of Honda's, including a Goldwing, a few Suzuki's, and a Kawasaki 900Z1R. The first big bike I bought was a 58 FLH ex-leo bike. Bought it when I was 17 and had it till it was stolen 21 years later. Went through a few more bikes then an 05 Electraglide Classic to an 03 Ultra (loved that bike) 95" SE motor. Bought it used with 823 miles on it. The guy did nothin but throw $$$$ at it, and it was sweet!! Blew my knee out and the HMO said that it wasnt bad enough to fix yet, but it couldn take the weight of the Ultra so I sold it. Blew the knee again 3 weeks after the Ultra sold, and they fixed it.........(figures). Now I have the "Road Ultra", an 05 Road King with a Dead Center removable radio fairing, an Ultra trunk bag on a quick realease bracket, and fairing lowers. So I can dress her up or strip her down.

That fairing and trunk really make it a completely different bike. Looks good!

I should get some nice pics of my bike one day. As much as I like photography I never shoot my own stuff.

Drop by a BMW dealer sometime. Unlike many manufacturers, BMW encourages its dealers to offer test rides, and almost all do.

We have a BMW, Triumph, Ducati dealer that goes to most of the "bike shows" in the area. I have a friend who has a Duc monster so most of the guys know me. They've been tryin to get me on a Rocket 3 for over a year now. They just picked up BMW, maybe I'll take a ride by there this year and have few rides.

Mike, "Jugs man, Jugs". No motor has had a boob. That said I have known a few boobs who ride them though.

MKB: I'd go and ride one of those Beasts. What you have sure looks nice. If that is your style don't pollute it. Corners can be addictive. Race tracks, expensive little money pits, are awesome, but you know that. The "Rock and Roll" lifestyle motors on no matter what you are on!
