Hi All,

Oh well once again another snag kind of! Found out my RV frame needs to be beefed up so had to cancel getting the tandem tow dolly and back to just getting an open trailer and just take bike with me!!!

over-bilt lift for sale

I have a lift on the back of a 43ft. Duch Star. After hauling a bike around for ten years have decided to give it up. If anybody knows of someone looking for a lift mine is for sale. New motor put on this year. Has the stinger hitch add-on. Is in good condition and works. Thanks

You're obviously had lots of experience using that lift over the years - on and off experience and dirt and grim for the travel, etc.

Enlighten us who are thinking about doing the same.

Hi, Just For Fun. We have had lots of fun with the motorcycle and full-time RVing. We bought the motorcycle when we were in a 5th wheel. After talking a hitch installere, we dicided not to put the lift on it and bought a motorhome to better accommodate out new toy. The lift made it relatively easy to secure the bike on the back of the motorhome and didn't seem to alter the way the motorhome drove. It did take both of us to load it. Me to ride it onto the lift, and my wife to attach the staps while I steadied the bike.
Of course when we traveled the bike would get dirty, but it was never scratched by the dirt and grime.
We have sold the lift and I'm sure we will miss the rides. I don't know of anything else to tell you, but if you have any specific questions, just ask.

Weight

Ok, let me throw this out.

I'm looking at adding a Hydralift to my Itasca Meridian 39K. Problem I'm looking at is rear Axle weight.

My calculation is based on the following:
Front axle weight 9,226, limit 10,410.
Rear axle weight 16580, limit 17,500.

Lets use Cruiserlift numbers.
Lift 450#
Centerline of motorcycle, hitch +23"
GL1800 Goldwing 910#
Current hitch to centerline of rear axle, 128"
RV wheel base, 262"

Formula:

Added weight over axle = A+B/C

A=weight of motorcycle+460=?
B=wheel base+distance to hitch+23"=?
C=wheel base=?

A=910+460=1370
B=262+128+23=413

1370X413/262=2160

17500-16580-2160=negitive1240# (Over weight)

There is my problem, I'm over the axle weight by 1240#.

Looking at other coach numbers I find it hard to believe that a lot of people are not operating over weight mostly with single rear axles.

Most people won't want to admit it. How about an honest answer from those who know they are. Have you had any problems with the suspension system or the ride and handling?

I really hate the idea of purchasing a new 4X4 at $30,000+ for an extended cab long bed, then the lift.

I'm open to any sugestion, recomendation, comments and ideas.

I do ask that all responses civil please.

Thanks in advance.

That was my concern, that I would be overweight on the rear axle or too close for comfort. We went with a loader in the back of the truck. You could consider trading your Tahoe for a 04-06 Tundra. They have a 6ft bed and with a loader can handle the weight of even a GW. The only downside is that you will need a driveshaft disconnect to tow the Tundra. Ours weighs right at 5K lbs without the bike.

You might consider my solution. Rather than deal with the weight of my street bike, I picked up a dual sport to carry. At 300 lbs wet weight and the capacity to carry a passanger, it solves all my problems. It's easy to load/unload, and can go on trails that would not be suitable for a pure street bike.

Can carry it alone on the RV.............. (Ohio)

Or behind the toad.................. (New York)

Goes where street bikes fear to tread and jeeps can't go. (N. Dakota)

Very agile on back roads. (Montana)

Remember All: LIVE, LAUGH & ENJOY !!!
I have a DP and looked at the overbuilt lift. As an engineer I was not impressed. So much so that I built my own system which will lift over 4,000 lbs high over the ball hitch. This then provides me with room to tow a Jeep Wrangler and haul my Yamaha 1100 V Star. A chap down the street liked the system so much that he duplicated it and put it on a 5th wheel to haul a 300lb MC. Then another chap copied it for a gas Sea Breeze and he hauls a 900 lb HD......This is America...anything is possible with enough time and money

As an engineer I was not impressed with any of the lifts that were for sale. I built my own and it weighs less than 250 lbs but hauls over 4,000. It places my 650 lb Yamaha 1100 hig enough that I can also tow my Jeep Wrangler behind. The DP is a Newmar and the hitch used is a 10,000 lb Hidden Hitch
