I'd be very surprised if that would work. Those lifts are designed for diesel pushers. A front engine gasser will have too long an overhang from the rear axle to the lift. Too much weight on the back, too little weight on the front. And the frame's probably not strong enough to handle it anyway.

Hi all,

Well I called a few different hitch places aswell as Overbilt and they all said the same thing! As long as my frame is a sold piece no weled on extensions, and the overhang from rear wheels is less then 12 feet it will be just fine! The have all put lifs on gas MH with no problems. Also Overbilt's web site says there lifts are for both gas & DP motorhomes. I will post back after I use it and let you all know how it works out!

Just remember, that the weight of the lift and Bike acts like a fulcrum. In other words, the weight is trying to lift the front end of the coach with the rear axle. Like a see saw works. I have a friend with a Hydra-Lift on a 40 ft DP and he can tell the difference in how it drives. I have it on my 45ft with a tag and it's noticeable.

You are moving the center of gravity way back, so if you are having wondering problems driving it now it will be twice as bad with the lift.

You might also want to know how much capacity you have left on your rear axle and tires (GAWR-rear minus current rear axle loading). The weight of the carrier and the bike PLUS the weight removed from the front axle by the cantilever effect will ALL wind up as additional weight on the rear axle.

Here's a weight and capacity calculator where you can determine the actual load.

Hi All,

Oh well took the rig to the hitch place yesterday and when they saw it, he said nope won't do it! But his reason was because my coach is already low and he said it would be hitting bottom all the time! So it is a no go! So will be looking at tow dollys or trailer, since I would like to be able to take both M/C & Jeep if I want! Thanks for all the input!

We tow a 4x4 pickup with the bike in the bed. I have a cruiser ramp loader that makes loading and unloading the bike safe and easy.

Hi All,

Yes I have also been thinking of treading in the jeep for a small P/U. However the only thing with that is if i am going on a short trip and want the M/C I am just useing the P/U as a trailer. The up siade is if I have a P/U instead of a trailer I don't have something else to store and possibly register and insure!! Oh well will keep looking & thinking not heading back north till May,LOL!!!

We have made a couple trips where the truck got used as a M/C trailer. I have thought about a trailer for those kinds of trips, but like you, don't want something else to store and maintain. I also figure that the truck may be nice to have if I need it.

You can buy a flatbed trailer designed specifically for hauling cars. Those have lots of room for a vehicle and motorcycle. Only hitch is the motorcycle will need to be perpendicular to the trailer orientation.
What sized bike is it?

Hi All,

Hey WeatherTodd,

I am also looking into that idea, the bike is a Yamaha 650 V-Star Silverado Classic it's about 8' long & 550lbs!

Hi All,

Well I ended up tradeing in the Jeep for a 2006 PT Cruiser Convertible and also picked-up a 2007 Tandem Tow Dolly with a Rampage lift on the front for the Bike! So I can take all the toys with me now!!
