2007 Rock Wood 8283SS - Roof repair

Hi guys. I'm looking to purchase this RV and it has a soft spot on the roof at the right rear. The existing caulk is weathered and cracked and it appears that water is getting the seam in that area. I'm pretty handy and capable carpenter and have done quite a few repairs on boats so I'm confident I can handle the job however this will be my first RV and need some guidance for those that have been through it. The soft area is about 2'x2'. The rear and right wall in the corner is still solid and no delam as of yet. The owner said it just started leaking not too long ago. Everything else is solid. How would I go about just replacing what is bad for now and I plan on a new roof next spring? Is it acceptable to only cut out the EPDM mat..say a 3x3 section. Remove the rotted wood, add some bracing and use permabond tape and self leveling caulk? It says that it's an aluminum frame. Does that mean all I should have to contend with is the plywood skin and some insulation and the joists will be in good shape? How is the plywood attached? Thanks in advance!

In lots of trailers the roof is the wood laminated to the insulation. You'll have to get in there and see what you find. I wouldn't cut the epdm, just remove your rear and side rails and peel back what you need to make the repair.

IMHO, if you plan to re-roof next year I'd just stop the leak and leave it alone until time for the complete job.
