Air conditioners struggling?

Heading to Las Vegas and high temps (103+)next week. Last year when we were there in similar temps it seemed like the units were struggling to keep up. Just couldn’t get the coach (2015 Cardinal 3850rl) cold enough. I remember being miserable.
How to test?? Same thing happened to our house AC and it was the capacitor.

Best you can hope for would be about ... again ABOUT.... 15, .... maybe 20 degrees F on a really good unit, difference between the air intake measured close to or at the unit and the unit or ducts. So if your inside temp at the intake is 95, you may get a bit under 80. Temps taken after it has been running awhile.

These units do not have the capacity of a home AC and will take much longer to drop the temps. They are pretty good at removing humidity. Witness the condensate dribbling off the roof on to the coach entry steps!!!

Best to put the fan on HI. Set the thermostat somewhere between 75 and 80ish. What you don't want to do is turn the evap coil to a block of ice. That will make it hot and muggy. So, a moderate temp with dehumidification would be the tip. You want it to cycle so it melts out the frost periodically.

Maybe a small fan somewhere in the coach to help circulate the air.

Not possible in NV. Shade would help. Keep shades down in windows, etc., etc., etc..

Normal split on the AC unit is 20 degF between inlet and outlet temperature. Nothing to do with measuring outside air temperature. Do not use the infrared temperature guns for air temperature. All it reads is a surface temperature of the vent and not the air.

Glad to see that we aren't the only ones headed to the Grasshopper Invasion next week

Check out Reflectix panels: https://www.reflectixinc.com/

I've not used them yet but many people swear by them. You place them in your windows (and car windows) to reflect the heat away from the interior. They work best when secured outside, particularly the large windows, because they never let the heat get inside but most people seem to just unfold them inside and place them against the windows.

Magneshade is another people seem to love but they are a lot more expensive. You apparently secure magnets to the inside of your windows and these things stick through the glass to the outside. No ladder needed to install them. https://magneshade.com/

if you can- shade makes a huge difference. Find a rv park with some shade. Or buy a portable "TWO" hose air conditioner. Adding the portable kept my MH cool in AZ and in Vegas.
