Coachmen SportsCoach Legend

We're seriously considering a new 2008 40' Legend with too many 'options' to list. My question relates to the now defunct Coachmen RV group and their processing of warranty claims. When Coachmen Industries sold the RV group to Forest River, a Berkshire Hathaway company, units that were built by Coachmen Industries and were “finished goods” and responsibility for warranties of these units did not transfer to Forest River. Therefore, the ultimate responsibility for warrant resides with Coachmen industries, who no longer manufacturers RV’s. Its my understanding that the $10 million set aside in an escrow account for subsequent claims has been spent. Anyone have a personal experience in dealing with Coachmen warranty claims? I know we will be buying an 'orphan' and will probably be stuck with Coachmen coach manufacturing issues -- other components will be covered by the respective manufacturer.

Given that this coach is almost 3 model years old, it will depreciate sharply upon leaving the dealership's yard. We're taking all of this into account in determining our final offer.

John, We don't own a Coachman Motor Home, but do however; own a 2008 T/T purchased new. There is a terrible problem with the Warranty on Coachman products. If your lucky you can get someone to call you. We had problems and gave up trying to get satisfaction either from Coachman and Forrest River. We did purchase an extended Warrenty and hopefully they will handle our issues. Good Luck in your purchase and keep us informed.

Mike,
We found a SportsCoach Legend that we like and its warranted by Forest River. This coach was in production at the time Forest River purchased the Coachmen RV group and has a Forest River serial number. This was our major concern when we settled on the Sportcoach Legends.

John, Sounds good since it has a Forest River registration, unfortunately ours has a Coachman registration. Good Luck on your purchase, be sure to post a few pictures on the New Rig Section of the Forums
