Hi All,
I am curious as to how much weight our Georgetown378/workhorse will pull. The Forest River site says gross weight 22,000 and combined weight at 26,000, however several other numbers say TBA. Does that mean only 4000 for belongings, water and toad? We want to purchase a hitch for our chevy HHR which I was told would not be a problem to pull, butt it looks like the HHR weights 4200. Does anyone else have similar MH and a toad?
Also any preferance for hitch assembly?

Thanks Barney

For example, your MH is rated for up to 22,000 LB (GVWR or gross vehicle weight rating). It may only weigh 18 or 19,000 lbs empty. If it weighs 22,000 lbs loaded , then it should be able to also pull a 4000 lb toad. If your loaded MH weighs only 21,000 lbs, then you should be able to pull a 5000LB toad. That would be 26,000 LB GCWR or gross combined weight rating

The hitch rating on your MH is most likely rated to tow up to a 5000# vehicle assuming it's a gas motor and your storage capacity inside the MH should be in the 2000-2500# range. In regards to the HHR weight, most are in the 3200-3300# range , not 4200#. When you get all your goodies stored in the MH, find a CAT scale and weigh it to help determin the optimal tire pressure to have.

We tow a Escape that is 3600 lbs and I forget its back there. We had a 2007 Saturn Aura that weighed 3500 lbs (Gradaughter has it in college now) and it was towed across the country to calif and back without any problems in the mts. We have the Blue Ox hitch and it works great. I would suggest that if you tow the HHR, run the rear lights seperately to the plug in front. we had the saturn wired into the electrical system and something went to ground. I kept blowing out the fuse in the motorhome. Ran a sepeerate wire to new lights in the rear window and everything was great again.

Thanks for the input, I will be looking into prices on hitches this week end, so all of this is good information, especaily the rear lights. Did you run a brake system and if so was it blue ox or other.
Thanks Barney

We use the even brake system. Its a little pricy but works great. A unit sets infront of your drivers seat and hooks to the brake pedal. It contains sensors and a compressor. On demand, it pushes against the seat to set the brakes. It comes with a transmitter and a receiver. Both are plugged into your ciggeret lighter for power. The transmitter is in the tow vehicle and the receiver is in the Georgetown. When you stop, the sensors activate the brake to stop the vehicle. release your brake in the motorhome and it releases in the tow veh and the compressor reactivates the plunger till it is needed again. It does not lock your brakes. It senses how much pressure you are using in the motorhome and activates the same pressure in the car. You have a display and lights to tell if the unit is active or there is a problem. There is no wires connecting the motorhome to the toad.

Howdy all,

I'm new to these boards and to motorcoaches in general. I recently bought a 2011 Coachmen Encounter 37TZ and plan to tow a Jeep. Now I'm wondering if I skipped a step and towing a jeep may not be possible or may cause me trouble. I have a 2010 Wrangler Unlimited Sport X. This is the model with four doors but otherwise looks like the traditional WWII jeep.

I know the hitch on the MH is rated at 5000# and also that with the fuel tank full and the water tank full the MH has 4111 pounds left of carrying capacity for us, food, tools, clothing and all the other stuff we want to carry.

What I don't know is what the jeep GVWR rating is but I'm looking for that.

Thoughts about what I can tow and if my MH will pull the jeep without too much difficulty?

Thanks for any help,

Roll and Mrs. Roll.
