Georgie Boy slide out problem

Hi everyone. Bothellbob here. That's Bothell, Washington State. My 2005 Georgie Boy Landau 3402 DS (2 slides) has slide-out shear pin problems. They shear after about 6 or 8 operations, and the factory says they will always shear; there's no cure. Has anyone experienced the same problem, and gotten it re-designed or repaired satisfactorily?

Hello Bob and . We are glad to have you join us and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. I am sure you will enjoy the website and forums. Good luck, stay safe and keep us posted.
There are a few thing you can do to help the situation. Always make sure your batteries have a good charge by having the unit plugged in or generator running during slide out operation. Some allow you (or require the engine to be running). Lubricate the mechanism with a dry silicone. Keep the walls clean and polished and the gaskets treated to prevent hardening. Always be sure the coach is level before operation. If you notice any binding or out of timing, get it repaired. We use a grade 8 bolt when replaced.

I had shearpin problems on a Monaco diplomat. I looked up shearpins on Google and the suggestion to make it stronger was to put one inside the other. Be sure to line up the spaces.

Mine worked well until I was "Tboned", the impact was transferred down the track gear and broke off the bosses that held the gear motor onto the mounting plate. It also sheared the screws that held the wall to the floor of the slide out.
It has not given me any problems for the last year now. Slide out gear was made by RBW. Parts are on the internet. New gearmotor is not as strong as the old one. Now is protected by a 15 amp breaker. The 1/4 inch stainless steel pin would work its way through the drive gear hub. Ordered 4 extra drive gears and took them to a steel treatment company and had them heat treated. I know to much about my slideout, don't need to know more.
