New Owner - 2011 Palomino Yearling

Just picked up the new pop-up camper this past weekend and have been familiarizing myself.

Today while tooling around the air conditioner shut off.

I called the dealer and was told that it was because I used an adapter to connect my power to a 220volt wall outlet on the side of my house, and I need to use a 110volt. They suggested that plugging the 30amp cable in would fix the issue right away.

Lacking a 30amp connection I dragged out my Generac generator which did have one, plugged it up to that and darn if that did not work!

So. I have a few questions I would like to pass by the class:

1) Why did that work?
2) Is there a way to "convert" my 220 house-supplied line to 110?
3) Do most campgrounds use the 30amp or the 110volt?

That is what it is wired to run on.

You all ready have 110 or more to the point 120VAC. Either leg to the neutral is 120VAC. They did away with 110 about 60 years ago.

The 120VAC (110) at campgrounds are 30amp and most also have 50amp plug ins also.

The voltage is the power behind the current flow.
The amps is the amount of current flowing.

I am confused about "tooling around" Were you driving around or were you working on the pop up while parked at your house?

Why would you connect to a 220v outlet in the first place? Seems like this is asking for trouble. What am I missing?

Tooling around = raising and lowering, connecting and disconnecting, testing operation of heater and cooler and refer to become better acquainted with the unit in general.

I plugged into the house outlet because the staff at the RV shop told me I could do so, this was apparently misinformation. Luckily no damage appears to have transpired.

I still find it fascinating that the only issue arising from plugging into the 220 was that the air conditioner stopped working, and would only start again after main power being plugged into the 110.

After a few days of working with it I feel much more comfortable with the unit, looking forward to an actual trip soon.

Follow Up:

The issue with the air conditioner was that it was drawing too much on the circuit and the breaker tripped. In essence the camper wants to draw at 30amps, and I had it plugged into a 15amp circuit. Learned something new!

I tested the faucet and found a slow appearance of water around the base, next job is to assess the faucet and its connections.

I am also reviewing the owners manual in order to sanitize the water holding tank.

An AC unit alone will easily run on 15 amp. Now running that with a microwave or a hair dryer (or equivalent) will blow a 15 amp. I run my AC off an orange ext. Cord all the time, along with lights, flat screen tv, etc.
