Water heater bypass question

I just purchased a new-to-me 2008 Cardinal 5th wheel. I can't seem to clear the antifreeze out of the lines so I can fill the water heater. I only see one valve and don't know how it could not fill the heater with antifreeze if I turn it. I miss hot water .

Did you try youtube for specific heater. Could it be a scale build up in the heater, caused blockage? Perhaps clean out and. Check anode when you clean/flush/soak with viniger, flush. I saw a special attachment to spray inside for flushing.

Good luck.

Oh, consider I am a newbee ti the RV world. More knowledge people than me will post help, I am sure.

Common for water heater to have just one valve.
Valve handle aligned with line that connects cold and hot is 'bypass'
Check valve used in HOT out to stop backflow when using 'bypass'

Valve handle aligned with cold water supply then water will flow into water heater tank

Remove water heater drain plug and make sure is empty
With water hose hooked up to 'city water' connection turn supply on
Then open each faucet hot side and cold side until antifreeze is blown out
Then do shower hot/cold, toilet and finally the hot/cold low point drains.

After clearing lines of anti-freeze you can then turn the water heater 'valve' 1/4 turn
It will then change from 'bypass' flow to cold water inlet flow
Water should blow out of water heater drain hole.
Turn off water supply...install drain plug
(Suburban uses a 3/4" ---anode rod. Use new if current is 75% gone.)
(Atwood uses a 1/2" NYLON drain plug --no anode rod---use new if current plug threads are messed up)

Check both the inlet and out sides of the water heater for valves. I installed a kit on ours and that's the way it is, with a line running between the valves for bypass. On ours one valve is on the side near the top and the other is directly below it near the bottom of the tank. On ours the end of the valve handles align with the bypass hose when set for bypass.

Best of luck.

Misson accomplished

Thank you for your input. I now have hot water that does not seem to have any antifreeze in it. Thank you!
