Eric,
It takes about 10-15 minutes to do the upgrade. Can you restore your tune? Short answer is yes. When you did or do the install the first item taken care of is your tune is downloaded & saved onto the 5 star device. Your current tune is saved because 5star does not know exactly what Ford has changed or done to their tune. Five Star makes thousands of adjustments to the tune so you can see there are a lot of changes. Following the saving of your tune the device will then down load the NEW tune. The entire process is reversible.

I did mine today. Whole process went smooth as clockwork. Took less than 10mins I am itching to give it a try but I won't be able to for a little while. :( I may just go for a little joy ride in the next few days. I feel a short weekend trip coming on.

Just finish flashing my RV, pretty smooth operation, 10 minutes from start to finish. I have to say those 10 minutes seemed to have been the longest one I could remember. ... can't wait next weekend to take it for a spin! My only question is only the transmission being reprogrammed (shift points) or do we actually benefit from a he and torque increase at 87 octane ?

But we left Wednesday from Chattanooga headed for Colorado and I am way beyond pleased with the 5 Star Tune. Like others with the Ford V10, if I got within half a mile of a slight rise in the road, it would downshift. That nuisance shifting is gone. Like magic. I actually had an opportunity to use cruise control and everything was going so well that I forgot that I had it on. I was reminded of that when I came to a steeper hill and it shifted to a much lower gear and the RPMs went north of 4K. I tapped the brake and everything went back to normal.
My Encounter drives like it should have when it came out of the factory. 5 Star Tune and CHF made it happen.
Thank you very much for taking the time to post your review! Happy that we could solve your downshifting woes when the rig sees a goosebump in the road in order to make your drive as enjoyable as possible!

How much time is needed to go through the whole process? (First time, so backup the original tune to the x4 device first then downloading the new tune into the ecu)
The entire process takes between 8-10 minutes to install the first time, stock download included.

The tune can be uninstalled at any time. It only takes a few minutes to do.

In addition to changes for the transmission, there are thousands of other changes we make in the tune. This not only corrects the factory pattern, corrects for ethanol in fuel (for older 2v's), but adds hp and torque as well. The more torque you have the easier it is to climb, even on 87 octane fuel. 2v's see +30/+30 and 3v's see +30/+75 to the ground. =)

The tuner greatly enhances the transmission shifting. The rpm is controlled better when in cruise. I did have it hit rocket Gear twice on the drive where it hit 4800rpm. Basically on a hill the transmission downshifted a gear and after a few seconds it hadn't pickup up enough speed to compensate and had to go another gear. Keep in mind what I haven't told you is we were pulling our Honda Fit on a dolly so that is an additional 3100# more. Had it not been for the car I don't believe it would have hit rocket gear.
Fuel mileage was about 1.5 mpg less than when driving without a towed vehicle so I can't really make a direct comparison bit 1-1.5mpg less was expected. I had hoped the tuner would have negated that loss but don't think there was much improvement. I drove the coach as conservative as I could for the majority of the time. We head home on Tuesday so I can get a second chance at mileage as we were also fighting the wind driving west.
I think the tuner is worth the cost just for transmission control.

Ps: this is a Thor 2015 on a 2014 chassis, 29.3 Ace my mileage pre tuner was 7.6mpg no towed vehicle and this was the first full tank for measuring. It was a mixed bag of travel, secondary roads and highway and some in town. First tank after tuner installation bit WITH a 3100# additional load I got 6.3mpg and this was into a headwind.
