The manual says it is not legal in CA!? Did I read that right? I have a Itasca Suntar with a 2013 Ford V10 6.8L.

Installed my new tune today. It took about 10 minutes. Everything went well, as the unit gives you a progress report throughout the process. I took the motorhome out for a 20 miles drive with my wife. We both noticed how much smoother the acceleration and shifting was. The drive was on flat roads but I look foward to mountain pass driving later this summer. Acceleration is much more effortless and drivng as I normally do on a 55 mph highway I was up to 60-65 mph without even realizing it.

I like to use town/haul mode for the downshift engine braking and even that was much smoother and controlled.

I'm very impressed by the tune and consider it money well spent. Well done 5 Star Tuning!

I downloaded the manual after I received the tuner and read the same thing. I tried to send an email to Chris by clicking on his email at the bottom of his posts. The email goes to the sales department, waiting until Tuesday for an answer.

I've read their report concerning the CA emissions and the Tune. According to them it is not legal in CA. That said. If you drive your MH for 12 months and enjoy it then get the Tune. Remove the tune, get your emissions checked then re-install it and drive for another 11 months and 30 days. What's the big deal??? I believe almost 12 months of trouble free smooth driving is good for 1 day of trouble removing and reinstalling the tune. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

OK, so maybe they have a side of the road emissions check. Don't know if they do or not in CA. You get stopped and fail the test. You've got 30 days to get it re-checked am I correct??

I've driven our MH only 20 miles with the tune and love it. I'll not be without it again. As many have said, Why did I wait so long to do it????

PCM help needed

PCM help needed, I have looked everywhere under the dash near brake pedal to no avail. Being rather large, and a bad back, I could not contort myself enough to get under the steering wheel, in front of drivers seat, and over and around the dog house hump. Boy it would have been easier on old class C just by opening drivers door. No drivers door on my A. This is a 2015 Winnie Sightseer 35 G on 2014 chassis. If anyone could show me an example of what I am looking for, it would be greatly appreciated, maybe a cell phone shot? I found the OBD plug, so good to go there when unit arrives. I even opened fuse box near brake looking, but no good there.

Are you looking for the OBDII connection or the PCM code??? You started out with the word PCM help needed then said that you found the OBD plug. OK, Did you find the male plug in the box from 5 Star and can't find the female connecting plug under the dash?? That's what I think you meant.
Yes it is on the right side of the steering column about half way up. It should also have a gray cover over it marked OBDII or something like that. If you find a cover take it off and it should have 16 pins on it and will also match the connector from 5 Star.

If you can't find the PCM code it's under the hood (not the dash) on the left hand side just below the windshield.
I weigh in at 160# and am 5'8"'s tall with a bad back and still have a very hard time getting in and around that area as well so I know what you are dealing with. Take it to some shop and pay some young kid to connect the plug. Take it to Auto Zone and ask them to plug it in to check for some codes. When he's done just ask him/her to plug your connector into the same plug. Then give him a $5 tip.

If your looking for the pcm code it should be under the hood over on the left look for the 3 connectors on the fire wall then look to the side and you should see a 4 letter/# code mine is prw4 mine is a 2013 Winnebago class A

Hey Teejay, thanks for answering. Yes I am looking for PCM code. I was told under dash near brake. Hummmm, no wonder I could not find it. I will go back to storage tomorrow and look under hood, left side( drivers side ?) And look near base of windshield. I need code to complete purchase. As far as the OBD plug, I was just mentioning that I found that while looking for PCM code. Reminds me of looking for where to find ice maker water filter. Manuak showed picture on left under kitchen sink and mention under gallery sink in cabinet to left of door ! Wrong! It was in bathroom, under wash basin.

TeJay,
Yes, that's what I plan on doing, uninstall the 5 Star before the bi-annual emission test. I don't think the emission test equipment can detect it anyway. The main reason I can see why it's not legal in CA is that you can turn off the rear O2 sensors. I'm sure there are others, including getting it approved by CARB. I don't think the road side testing would detect it either. They are looking for vehicles that have modified or removed factory equipment. I may go to a tester after I install the tune and pay him to test the emissions. Just had mine done this year so I'm not due until 2016. Most vehicles get put on a Dyno during the test. With motorhomes they just run the RPM's up the 2500 during the test. Even my 2005 Yukon XL 3/4 ton 4X4 doesn't go on the dyno. I currently have the Banks Power Pak System on the motorhome with a plug in chip for the ECM. I don't have a CARB sticker for the chip but do for the headers and intake. The bi-annual emission testing has never detected the chip, and I have had the testing done three times since installing it.

Just going to bypass it for now. Chris said I need to so it won't interfere with the 5 Star Tune. Probably remove it later. Have to look at the wiring, three wires from the original Ford plug were relocated to the Banks plug. I let Banks do part of the install, wish I had done it all now so I would have notes to go by. Doubt if it's a big deal though.
