Knightab,

Adaptive learning accounts for approximately 8-10% in adjusting how the vehicle learns, drives and operates according to your driving style. The consensus is to drive the vehicle in the manner you would want it to perform. If you never use cruise control I would drive it manually vs using CC. If you use CC for the majority of your driving, use CC during the adaptive learning phase as you would normally use it. This will allow you vehicle to learn your driving style the best that it can. Personally I do not use CC in heavy mountain terrain. I do however use it in almost every other driving scenario possible.

Ok! Halfway with our trip (540 miles) and the 5 Star Tune. It feels "smoother" when it shifts than it did before and less straining. I did not use cruise on the way here but will on the way back. Did not notice much difference in gas mileage but the drive was way more relaxed.
Will report further when we get back!

His MH is OBDI, OBDII wasn't used until 1999 chassis. He most likely has 1997 chassis, there was no 98 chassis built. If he wants to the read codes there is a procedure to get them or he can buy a OBDI reader. Subford is the best forum member to advise on the procedure. If you search on his user name you will find a lot of his posts

I don't know if they check this thread daily since the group buy is expired, but call them at 843-536-1244. It only takes a couple of days to get the tune once they have your PCM info and payment.

I missed the buy - and really liked the prices. Guess I will just have to wait for the next one.

Call them and tell them you are on IRV2 and they will give you a discount. May not be as deep as this sale was but they will take care of you.

We just made a duplicate trip from a month ago and the tune worked much better this time. Never saw the 5-3 downshift in cruise this time.

If towing or steep grade you would most likely see a 5-4 downshift and then if it can not keep the speed it will do a 4-3 downshift. I have not been on any serious hills yet but it is possible that by manual throttle manipulation 4th could power you up the hill but you may see some speed loss. I would rather see some speed get scrubbed than have the engine screaming at 5200rpm. Designed for it or not I don't like it personally.
On edit: I have used a banks tuner on a Chevy Kodiak with diesel I had but have no info on comparing the banks to the 5star on the Ford v10. On the kodiak it was a huge improvement over the stock tune it had, it was fitted with fleet tune so it was pretty poor.

Here is Chris's last post about the end of the group buy. Apparently he is still offering a discount to iRV2 members by using the code he provided, though I don't know how much the discount is ...
