We have seen several statements about mud flap materials. Our mud flaps are made from a 3/8" thick Double Nylon Reinforced virgin rubber. Most others are a reground commercial grade rubber with no reinforcement. This reinforced rubber is made to resist the petroleum products on the roads. The extra thickness makes the mud flap weigh more than most, so it will not fly up behind your coach.
Coupled with our 14 gauge stainless steel weight, the 14 gauge galvanized backing plate and the metal powder coated angle iron that the mud flap hangs from, this mud flap is made stronger to last longer. We even use stainless steel for the hanging ears along with the stainless steel studs, bolts washers and nuts, nothing will rust.

There has been talk about the mud flap hitting the ground when letting the air out of the bags.
First, make sure your mud flap is 4" off the ground if at all possible. This gives most coaches the room to drop the air bags, and just kiss the ground. We also have holes in the backing plate ends so you can bungie the mud flap up. This is great for when letting the air out, and it may also be helpful when you need to back up over a curb to park your coach.
We have also designed a mud flap holder that sits over the hitch and holds the mud flap up for those that do not have anything to attach a bungie to.

Do mud flaps stop the rocks from hitting your toad?

We always recommend starting with the mud flaps in your fender well. These, when made right will solve 80% of the problem.
They should be with 6" of the ground when you are in drive height. They can be as close as 4" off the ground, as long as you can not back into any curbs or parking guards far enough to find those low hanging mud flaps.
They need to be wide enough to cover the tires, and they need to be just stiff enough to not fly up as you move down the road.
We make ours from the same long lasting polyethylene material that we use on our pick up mud flaps. They will not break, crack, split , peel or fade. We do have rubberized material we can use for those that take their coach off road alot and are worried about finding that hard object to back up against.
To order them you will need to find where you will hang them from, then measure and tell us the size you need. We will program and cut them to your specifications, and ship them to you.
Or you can find us at a few shows we do during the year and we will do all the work for you.

Once you are covered in the wheel wells, then take a look to see how your toad is surviving. The mud flap across the back does do a lot of good for many coaches, but can be a hindrance for others...according to some postings.
The big item to look at is how far off the ground your back mud flap is. It should be no closer than 4" of the ground, we try for 5" when the coach sits high enough. If it is too close to the ground, as many are, they can cause a wind tunnel effect and throw rocks at your toad. If you are taking the Alaska highway, with all the loose gravel, it seems to be highly suggested to remove that mud flap for the trip. At least pull it up even further if you have open space above that allows you to.
You want the mud flap to be heavy enough to not fly up as you go down the road, but to be able to swing up when it does get hit to keep from it being t-boned.
We still believe in the back mud flap for most coaches. We have heard many stories of the mud flap getting wiped out by items in the road like lumber or alligators, but it protected their toad that would have otherwise gotten hit. The mud flaps in the fender well do not keep you from finding tall objects that just fit under your coach in the middle of the road.

Question

Can you cut a custom name into the full width flap?

Thanks.

Hi Aggiedad,

Yes, we can put whatever you want on the stainless steel weight. It will be laser cut through the weight leaving the black mud flap showing through.
You tell us what you want it to say, and what style font you prefer.
We will create the design, and send you a mock up of it before we actually have it laser cut.
Here are a couple of samples of others we have done. The design element on the Destination mud flap is a graphic we can put on yours at no extra charge for graphics.

Quartzsite time

Hard to believe, but it is time to go to Quartzsite again.

We will be in Quartzsite, set up for the Tyson Wells Sell a Rama in January.
It runs during the same time as the big tent RV show, and is just across the street.

If you want us to bring your custom mud flap with us, we can do that, and install it there. Just call in the order by December 15th to give us time to get it designed and laser cut.

If you are not quite ready to order, come by to see us and take a look at our high quality products. We can still help you measure your coach for the right fit up.

We will also have our materials on site to install fender well mud flaps. These are key to protecting your coach and your toad.

Give us a call for more information.

Our next show will be the FMCA Rally in Pomona the end of the month.
If you are heading that way, and want a custom mud flap for the back of your motor home, give us a call right away. We are about to have our last laser cutting completed before we head out, and we can bring your mud flap with us. If you miss out on this cutting, come see us in the booth. Dennis can still make your life so much easier.
He will come to your coach, measure it to get the right size mud flap and any cut out requirements to go around the hitch or exhaust pipe. Then, he will leave the hardware hanging on your coach so when you do get your custom designed mud flap it is a simple install.
As always, we will bring the material needed to custom install mud flaps inside the fender wells; and we will bring a few mud flaps with blank weights on them for those that do not care if the weight has anything on it.
Hope to see many of you there.

DuraFlap is at the FMCA Family Reunion in Pomona California.
We brought some mud flaps with us to install at the show. For those wanting their own custom design, we are here to measure your coach and get you the right custom fit. We will leave the hardware hanging so all you do is lift each end up and attach it to the D Ring when you get your mud flap. How much easier can it be?
We are also doing custom installs in the wheel wells to make sure everyone has the best protection possible.
Even if you are not attending, bring your coach to Pomona and get a day pass. There are lots of vendors here.
