03 Ultimate Advantage vs 05 Vectra

I'm doing a road trip tomorrow and Monday to look at the two RVs mentioned above. Would someone with experience please compare them. They have similar mileage, similar price, both 40 ft. Tires, batteries same age. Pictures of both look great. I'm looking for advice on known issues. Thanks, Dave

Look at maintenance records. What chassis are they on? Good luck and enjoy the hunt.

The Ultimate could be on the Spartan chassis, while the Vectra is on the Freightliner chassis. The Ultimate will have a side radiator, while the Vectra will have the rear radiator. You can do a comparison look by visiting the Winnebago web site. Winnebago Product Information | Motorhome & RV Information

All things being equal on condition, maintenance and personal preference on interior layout - the nod should go to the Ultimate.

Whichever one you go for, if not real experience on inspecting RV's, spend the coins on two things:
1) Independent inspection of the coach components, and overall condition.
2) Cummins or CAT (Probably Cummins with both of these coaches. ISL, or possibly ISC(?) depending upon age.) shop to look over the engine, pull samples of oil.

Check the age of tires, and batteries for both!

Best of luck to you,
Smitty

Looked at the Ultimate today, nice coach, side radiator, new tires, batteries, stored indoors in heated shop, but the better half didn't like the covering on the ceiling and it had two stains from water near the front of the coach. Second coach is at a dealer but open lot so we inspected the exterior today. Again, side radiator, Cummins, Freightliner chassis. Tires are another matter. Unit is on consignment by the widow, said they bought new tires two years ago but the tires have a date code of 1303! The dealer sold them 10 year old tires as new! Will inspect the interior tomorrow and research some other items, maintenance, etc. Not our first coach and I'm no expert but the hunt is fun!

Are you sure the Vectra has a side radiator? Many Winnebago's from this era came with basement air conditioning, located on the right rear side.

And it has not been unheard of, for a dealer to shuffle a newer set of tires to a rig, to complete a sale of another coach. (Swapping oder tires, with a coach that has newer tires.)

And yeah, the hunt can be as fun as it can be at times stressful too...

Best of luck,
Smitty

Yes, it has a side radiator. Unusual but not unheard of. Dealer said it depends on the chassis, don't know what that means. Had a couple issues, two leaks that may or not have been repaired, two fogged windows. When I mentioned the problems the dealer told me I was free to repair anything I wanted after I owned it but he was not going to repair before the sale! Sometimes wonder how they stay in business.
