There are a couple of ways to do different materials properly. What is the panel material and can you send a photo of cabinets on either end if applicable?

Mandalay ceiling

Thanks mike fo reply, ceiling is some type of vinyl with foam backing and there are cabinets that but against the ceiling which would have to be removed. There are strips between the panels as well. Hopefully this helps

Do a search because there's another thread about a Mandalay ceiling R&R within the past six months.

Maybe you can contact the OP and get some insight. Good Luck!
