I had a 12V, 3 speed, 36" Trusty ceiling fan with remote control installed in the lounge area of my 2012 Itasca Meridian 40U coach (just fits between the slides when retracted). It runs quietly and without wobble. However, the motor RPM on the High setting is only about 60% of that for the similar 2 speed unit in the bedroom with a wall switch. Anyone have any ideas as why the 3 speed fan with remote rotates more slowly on High than the 2 speed one on High?

PS - Both fans appear to be made by Trusty, and have the same appearance.

Does the bedroom unit have smaller blades... usually the speed of a ceiling fan is limited to the speed of the tip of the blade... thus a larger diameter fan would have a slower RPM but have the same distance traveled based on time... computing the speed of the tip of the blade.... the smaller fan would have a faster speed but the speed at the tip of the blade would be about the same... of course if they are both the same diameter.. I don't have a clue..

Both fans are 36" in size

Probably has to do with battery draw, to conserve energy so that you don't run your batteries down as fast. If you are boon docking you don't want that ceiling fan hogging up all your juice. I realize it's not using a whole lot...probably around a half amp but they add up quickly.

Many 12 volt motors can change speed based on different sets of resistors wired into the motor windings. More resistors coming on line lowers the speed of the fan. Three speeds, remote control = more bells and whistles. You could probably install a 2 speed and like it better.

Makes sense to me...like the resister pack for an automotive blower.
