12 volt hair dryers?
My wife has a power hungry 110V 1500 watt hair dryer and wants to buy a 12 volt hair dryer. Will the 12 v be a viable option to the 1500 watt device? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

No, it would draw 10 times more amps and wound require massive wiring. With less wattage it would take longer to dry hair. Cigarette lighter plugs are designed for 5amps DC (70 watts). Maybe Dyson will come up with an alternative soon?

We had a 12vdc hair dryer when we use to have a boat........worthless, the air dried her hair faster 
Resistive loads are large draws in DC voltage, like mentioned. She would be better off to look/find a smaller wattage 120VAC hair dryer, lets say 750 watts if the 1500 watts is a problem. Most dryer's have a high/low settings......750/1500

DW likes her Roadpro hair dryer. She has had it for over ten years. 12 volt, 15 amp, 180 watt.
She also a Conair LP curling iron.

Although some 12V "cigarette lighter STYLE/TYPE sockets" and "cord plugs" MAY be wired with light gauge wire and be protected by a only a 5 amp fuse....true "cigarette lighter sockets" are USUALLY wired with 14ga wire protected by a 15 or 20 amp fuse.

The 120 volt jobs ar generally over 1,000 watt (1200 to 1500)
The 12 volt jobs a fraction of that so.. See above quoted text
Drawing 1200 watts (100 amps) From a 12 volt accessory outlet is NOT going to happen..10 amps (120 watts) is closer to reality and even then it may not be good.

If there is a high / low switch on the hair dryer that she already has, juse keep it set to the low power setting. Other than that, therer is not much else that you can do.
