I've have one of my AC units replaced at the dealer and they say now that they can't program the controller because the house batteries won't go above 9 volts which won't let the invertor supply enough power to set the AC unit's controller.

The batteries may be bad, they are old. I don't understand why they are required to do what they need to do.

Is $1200 a good price? I'm already into it for $2500 to replace the AC unit.

What brand, model, amp/hour capacity. Sounds high, but are you willing to do it yourself.

Tell them to plug in your coach! charge them up!

They say that since they won't charge up past 9 volts, they can't do the rest of their work. I really don't understand this part.

They said they use "good ones", but I didn't get the details after the price shock. But I'd expect Lithium ones at that price, and not the deep cycle that they are offering. I am willing and able to do it myself.

Trojan 105 6volt golf cart batteries on EBAY for 129 each. Just to give you an idea x four of what decent batteries are worth. Maybe they are quoting you AGM batteries or something other than standard flooded batteries. Four of these golf cart batteries are more than enough for the average person, unless you are a super boondocker, and have a bunch of solar panels etc. In that case, you might want to pony up for the higher end batteries like lithium. It would take a mechanic tops and hour to change the four batteries. As previously stated, if the rv is plugged in, the converter should be putting out 12 volts to everything in the rv. This should allow them to program whatever they need to. How did the house batteries get so low. Maybe run the engine for a while, and give the batteries a bit of a boost. I have heard of batteries being too low, and the converter wont pick up due to the low voltage. Maybe with a little help, it will start charging.

I paid $2,700 for 4 8D Lifeline AGM's in Sept last year. I have room for two more but haven't felt the need for the extra power.
You definitely need to find out the brand and model of the batteries the dealer wants to use.

You may be able to do the work yourself but can you do it at the dealers since your rig apparently isn't drivable.
I was at my dealers and wanted 4 8D AGM Lifelines they had in stock. They didn't have time/manpower to install them and wouldn't let me do it on their property. Their price was the best I found and would have saved me $300 over what I eventually paid.

$300 a battery? Describing what they plan to install as "Good Ones" doesn't come close to $300 battery. Maybe "Outstanding", but that's a big maybe. Tell them to plug the coach in or bring the generator online to complete the job as contracted rather than trying to up sell over priced batteries. At $2500 for a replacement A/C they made enough money so far.

Ok, I found out they replace with Harris brand AGM 6 volt 225 amp hour batteries. So that's 4 for $1200 installed.

Not a terrible installed price for AGM’s which generally cost about twice the cost of flooded batteries such as the Trojans mentioned above. The AGM’s are far superior, charge faster, have longer life, and require no maintenance. Personally I would not have any other lead acid battery except AGM.

Your reply is timely. I am looking to replace my four 105's and would want to buy the batteries from a trusted local source so I had recourse if there was a problem. Just called a local golf cart dealer and they had them for $129 each plus $100 if I want them installed. Thanks for getting me on the stick.
