1989 Ford 460 starter location
I have a 1989 Mallard 310 Class A with Ford 460 engine.
I am trying to locate the starter. Because of the age of the rig, it is difficult to find info. I have all of the manuals, but they are just line drawings of the system. Any ideas?

This. ^ I replaced the starter in my previous 94 F250 with the 460.
It was easier than changing the oil. Didn't take more than 15 minutes.

In addition, the older 460s have a separate solenoid for the starter - located at the end of the large battery cable connected to starter. So don't replace the starter without checking out the solenoid first.

Thank you for your help finding the starter. On the Mallard it is located on the drivers side, next to the oil pan. Checking the seloniod, It seems that the starter is not getting power?

It's common for the solenoid to fail. And not too hard to test.
You should have continuous battery voltage on one of the big terminals (the other big terminal goes to the starter) the small terminal on the solenoid energizes the solenoid. You can test this by disconnecting the small wire to solenoid and applying 12V with a jumper. If the solenoid is good the contacts will close and the starter will get power (crank). The solenoid is usually grounded by its mounting bracket (so be sure bolts are tight and mounting point is clean).
If jumping the solenoid works, then check the small wire to see if you are getting 12V when the key is in the crank position. If your not, it could be a bad neutral safety switch, bad ignition switch, etc.
