Welcome to iRV2.

You did a maintenance tune up ? or were you after this problem in the first place ?
Was the fuel filter replaced ?
Does the engine start well and idle smooth?
Is the check engine light on ?

is it running smooth? if not, you crossed the wires.
if it is.. did you gap the plugs? could be too small and not firing on all cylinders.
Did you twist the cap when working on it and retard the timing (most likely)

Good question that needs to be answered. How was it running before you changed out the plugs and wires? This is where you need to start.

Do you hear spark jumping?
Check the Plug Wires for proper firing order
Be sure they are all on a plug, or on a coil

Because it ran good before-I bet you have the rotation wrong, wire not on a plug, or the spark is jumping to a ground

If you have a distributor cap- it might need replacement, i.e., could be jumping fire inside.

I would bet you have a crossed wire.In the future always do one wire @ a time.
The firing order is on top of the manifold.A Chiltons manual or do some searching on the web for firing order for 454 will help you get them back in order

Also check that plug wires are fully seated on the plugs

Thanks. I checked the firing order seems to be correct. I didn't think about the fuel filters but it does start right up and idles a little rough. I'll have to check the plug wires for tightness again.

PS- Did you happen to clean the engine -with engine cleaner & then hose it off?

If you did, your problem will be condensation inside the distributor cap- assuming you have a distributor cap. Dry it out with WD 40.

Call me stupid but how does changing plugs and plug wires get condensation in the distributor cap?

No. Unfortunately I didn't have the problem before changing the plugs and wires. I'm kicking myself for trying to be proactive and changing some old plugs.
