1994 Georgie boy Swinger diesel pusher

1994 Georgie boy Swinger diesel pusher
Hi,
Brand new to this forum. Where is the best area to find out about maintaining the 1994 Georgie Boy Diesel Pusher. I think it has a cummins motor, but am not sure. This is my first diesel and hoping on some good advice for cleaning the engine. Which oil is recommended? I know that is always good for debate. What about the tranny oil? Other filters and or cooling system maintenance advice. I'd like to pressure wash it. Good or bad idea. Gas engines I used to protect carb and distributor, before washing. I understand that changing the air filter is a different beast check filter etc. would like to know about valve lash adjustment. AND AND is there anybody that can tell me about an aftermarket fix for the non working parking brake mode. Or the best fix for it. Thanks for any help.

1994 Georgie boy BUTTONS?

Anybody know what these switches are for? One is the button just in front of the steering wheel. the other is the rocker switch that lights up next to the mirror adjustment buttons. Thanks

Hi Aeronaut and Welcome to the Forum!

I don't think there are too many GB Swinger diesels out there. Most were gassers. I have to question it being a diesel pusher. That steering column looks very General Motors. Are you sure the engine is in back (pusher) and not up front (puller)? If it is up front and is a V-8 diesel then it is likely the GM 6.5 diesel in a GM/Chevy chassis which I would expect in that age and class of motorhome.

If it is a straight 6 Cummins in the rear then so be it. Questions related to engine/chassis are usually posted in the respective chassis sub-forum for best response.

Once we are clear on your specific chassis/engine we can offer meaningful feedback.

Can't say for sure on your button/switch issue but the pushbutton looks added on.

Enjoy your motorhome!

Georgie Boy Owners Club MAY be of some help. I suggest you look for the chassis brand and verify engine and tranny combo before doing much work. Good luck and WELCOME to iRV2.com. There are individual forums for the engine and Allison tranny here on iRV2. in the "powertrain garage" section.

The switch next to the mirror control is probably the mirror heat. (defrost)
Coachmen has an owners manual for the Swinger and Cruisemaster, It does mention some units had a Diesel engine.. But it might help with appliance and operating info. If it's a Cummins diesel, check with freightliner for chassis info.
Owners Manuals - Coachmen RV (just enter year and drill down to model)

You may be able to go to Cummins with engine serial number and get pubs.
https://quickserve.cummins.com/info/index.html

Coachmen bought GeorgieBoy at some point. Coachmen does maintain records to some extent. I called a few years ago and Coachmen customer service advised that GeorgieBoy never made a Landau diesel..

Hope this helps..Welcome..

OK lets start with the basics.....

On an older coach we always recommend changing all the fluids. Engine should be changed once a year or 6500 miles (let the debating begin) change the fuel filters at the same time. Tranny, being a pre 06 it will have standard ATF dex III (probably) and should be changed once a year or put in transynd (Allison synthetic fluid) which is good for 100k miles with filter changes every 25k miles. I prefer to use transynd over other brands as the price is about the same and with it a tech can pull the dip stick over a white rag and know it's transynd by the color, other synthetic's are typically the same red as standard ATF.

For the coolant, drain, flush & fill with new. Being sure to get all the old out - don't forget about the lines that go to the dash heater, I've seen those lines & heater hold upwards of 4 gallons.

Pressure wash it up. Water won't hurt it.

Thanks for your time Nick. I've been able to find out that is indeed a GMC 6.5L from a GM forum. I've tried multiple times to join the Georgie Boy forum, but I keep getting a message that the administrators mail box is full. I guess it is a common problem with that site from what I've read. It is a pusher. Anyway every time I lift the queen bed in back there is the engine. Trying to find out many answers to this unit. I have some Manuals, they look like the original, but talking about vague. They are not very helpful. Reading the manual I thought it had the cummins, but it is a V8 GM 6.5L. The switch by the mirror adjust is the most interesting. It lights up sometimes when I switch it on or is it off. Anyway I'm easily entertained. Thanks for your response.

The first three (3) characters of the vin# will identify who built the chassis. There are many vin de-coders available online.

Aeronaut, this web site has LOTS of good info on the GM 6.5 diesel engine. I was a member there years ago when I owned a diesel Chev Suburban.
The Diesel Page - for the 6.2L, 6.5L, and Duramax 6600 (6.6L) GM Chevrolet and GMC diesel engines.
