Making sure i understand. Ignition off steps out. They should stay out until the ignition is turned on and the door is closed. So You are saying that the steps will not come out when the door is opened and the ignition is off. Check the step switch should be on if it is on and the steps still will not come out with the door open try closing the door turn the ignition on and cycle the step switch with the door closed. Then see what happens.

Don't rely on WD40 since it is not a lubricant. It's good for loosening seized bolts, etc but doesn't lubricate. Use a good quality spray lubricant like Lithium white or similar.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Noticed that you are kinda new on IRV2 and wanted to say hello!

It your's is like most coaches, the step switch inside the door keeps the steps from going in and out when you are parked with the ignition off. When you start the engine the steps will come in, regardless of the position of that switch.

As Lt. Dan said, WD40 is not a lubricant. I recommend a spray can of silicone lubricant. Spray everything that moves!

Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

You've got the same step controller I have I think (I have Kwikee 42 style). Mine operates like this - open door, flip the "Stay Out" switch ON and close the door - steps stay out.

If I turn the ignition key on for any reason the steps are retracted (regardless of door) and if the "Stay Out" is ON, now the steps are in the mode that they don't go out until you flip the "Stay Out" switch OFF. This is a bonus mode that you can use if you are going to be parking next to a high curb or a permanent set of stairs, etc. From what I have read the newer controllers don't do this. So there is plus having this mode.
The down side is if you have the steps out and "Stay Out" is ON, and you turn on key and don't realize this (hear the steps coming in) then it can become a dangerous event and someone can get hurt as they step out of the coach without looking down (almost happened to me). So to help in this matter, I use a clothespin on the ignition key whenever the "Stay Out" sw is ON, this reminds me to switch OFF the "Stay Out" sw BEFORE turning on the key. I keep the clothespin on my visor.
