1998 Chevy 454

Any help appreciated
when I turn the key to start the engine there is a small steel cable on the back side of the steering column that connects to what could be a solenoid that the cable pulls up and then the cable goes back down as to make a connection. Does anyone know what this controls? The (solenoid) get extremely hot when the engine is running..

On a lot of these the cable goes from the place where the key goes to the ign. switch that is attached to the lower part of the steering column.

I have a 1995, P30 chassis as well, and have notice this solenoid thing to at the bottom of the steering column, mine gets very hot too, not sure about the wire thing you are describing but I would like to know what this is too.

This needs to be moved to the Workhorse Chassis forum if you want good answers.
