Hi -- we are new owners of a 1998 Tiffin Allegro. It drove home over 2 hours drive like a dream. Turned in driveway easily. The next day my husband wanted to turn the 31' foot RV around so it's hood was facing the busy road in front of our house. So we tried this - back & forth - drive/ reverse & of course braking. Soon into this maneuver we lost our power steering & brakes. Our mechanic came out & checked belts & fluids. We cannot even turn it enough to get out of our drive.
It's built on a Chevy 454.
One problem we are aware of is a leak in the front right suspension airbag - one left one is at 80psi the other was at zero -- we filled it up to 50.

With no power steering or brakes you have a broken power steering pump shaft. the pump pulley stays on and turns belts look okay.The system GM uses is a hydraboost, I believe thats what it is called. GM used this system on different commercial vehicles. If you turn the steering wheel over to hard lock and rev the engine up you will break the pump shaft. It makes a high pitch squeal just before it breaks. I had this happen to me on an Astro van. Kinda scary you are dead in the water.
Yep, we have a 99 Pace Arrow with the same engine. Last little parking movement and heard a POP. No power assist on steering or brakes. $500 later and all fixed. We were in a small town in Iowa when it went out. Just glad the local tire shop could get the new pump.
