$200 to wash and wax a 38ft class A with full body paint

Hi,

I got a quote today from a place I passed.
He was doing a older Winnie Gasser and had a class B sprinter in the lot.

How does this price sound?

Should I be leaving a tip? I have never had this done before.

$200 seems a bit high. Thats over $5 a foot.

I also have a 38 ft and have paid as low as $100 to have it done on site, and as much as $10 a foot ($380) for wash, dry, wax on site.

Maybe that's just the local price... also there is a price for connivence. I always pay because I dont want to do it.

I mis-read.... $200 is a great price for wash and wax.... I thought it was wash only. Sorry!

So here is my edit : I paid $380 for coach wash, roof wash, wax, and sealant...and as low as $100 for a wash and dry.

The construction saying goes.... measure twice and cut once.
I guess I shouldld have read twice and then I would only need to post once.

Also... I always tip.

Around here, the mobile (they come to to you) wash and wax charges $7/foot. Your 38' would cost $266. Then again, SLO is an expensive place to live.

$200 for a wash and wax is pretty reasonable, unless it's just a liquid spray wax. I've paid $135 for wash only. Tipping would depend on how you feel about their service when they finish.

$200 for a good wash and wax sounds like a fair price to me.
MY general rule of thumb for tipping is - always tip if the person doing the work is the hired help, and they did a reasonably good job.
If the person doing the work is the owner then I'll generally only tip if he did an exceptional job.

I checked with a shop which does car, truck, boat and RV detailing two weeks ago. They charge $11 per foot for wash and wax. They use power buffers. I have seen some of the work they have done and it's top quality IMO.
I asked when they could do my MH and I was told they were about three weeks behind. I believe it. Their parking lot was full. Seven employees and they were all busy when I was there.

That a VERY good price IF—they're doing a wash with a soap that doesn't remove your existing wax—washing roof and body, and then using a good wax like a good synthetic wax like Meguiars and a powered buffer.

I always do my own washing and washing...but for $200 I'd really have to look at that hard...and talk to a couple of recent customers.

Is he doing everything by himself? What kind of brush was he using? Yes, see what the wax process entails.

Personally, I'd tip since it's a good price and depending on the job he does. If I was satisfied with all aspects of the job he did, I might give him as much as $50 ...or maybe even a bit more depending on how we were communicating or if I asked him to do something extra, etc.

In Little Rock Ar. I hired a $200.00 for wash and wax mobile detail. Worst job ever. Scratched the front cap. Paid him $100.00 to get off my property before he waxed and messed up more then cost me $600.00 to paint correct. Then a month ago had them out again. $350 wash and wax looks brand new. He said he charges 8 to 12 dollars a ft depending on how bad. We have a 38 ft and I always tip the guy there. I have found you get what you pay for. If you are paying under $300 for a wash and wax on a 38 ft RV be careful of what you are getting you may end up with more damage then cleaning.

We got a bid from a paint and body shop. $1000 for a 45 footer. We passed. $200 is a great price, it's a lot of work.
