2000 Safari Continental MH

Hi all
#1. Looking for any info on how to adjust the single slide on our MH. when standing behind the driver's seat, the slide stops a few inches from the exterior wall. On the opposite side when the slide is pulled in, it sticks out about 3/4". Its a hydraulic slide with all of its components hidden. I do not see any adjustments on the gear notched rails.
#2. Hurricane Diesel Heater. Been around RV's for 50 years. Not familiar with this heating system. Turns on as it should. No codes on computer box next to heater. Green light stays green as it should. But, it takes toooooo long for heat to come out of the vents.
Suggestion, Idea's appreciated
Cheers
BD

If the slide is a HWH component, I think it is not adjustable other than operating the system several time to purge any air from the cylinders. HWH® INSTALL & SERVICE INFORMATION

From a cold start the Hurricane heater needs to heat the hot water loop before you'll feel much heat and this take time. If the register fans are running they are removing heat at the same time. There's also a heat exchanger in the engine so the cold engine coolant is sucking up some of the heat too, so they can be slow to come up to temp. This is just the way they work. Mine too takes quite some time to heat the coach from a cold start.

A regular furnace only has to heat a thin metal wall of a heat exchanger before you get heat at the registers and this takes happens almost immediately.

If you have an "Engine heat" switch you can turn it on as you travel and the engine will preheat the loop so it, and hot water, will be hot when you arrive at your destination. I've found in my rig, I don't need to use the switch because the loop is hot when we arrive. Your configuration may be different.

One modification I'm considering adding to my unit is a battery operated timer that starts the boiler before we get up in the morning. Some Hurricanes have an electric heat option that will heat the loop without running the boiler but we don't have that option. Unless I'm boondocking, and it's very cold, I won't run the system all night so it'll be a cold start each morning.

Be aware these systems require yearly maintenance to keep running well. This means changing a fuel filter, air filter, cleaning the boiler combustion chamber and fuel nozzle. There's also a tiny sintered brass filter inside the nozzle assembly that must be cleaned or replaces every couple years. None of these things are difficult not take much time. If you've changed the oil , filters and sparkplugs in your car, you'll be able to service the Hurricane.

One common failure happens if air gets in the fuel line. A common cause is the rubber fuel hose dries out and cracks near the fuel tank.

In your engine compartment should be a small plastic tank where you add coolant. If your Hurricane also provides hot water you must use boiler specific non-toxic antifreeze. If the heat exchanger in your hot water tank were to crack, antifreeze can contaminate your domestic water so you don't want to use regular automotive antifreeze which could make your sick.

It's also suggested you carry a spare nozzle, fuel filter, nozzle o-ring and ignitor because they will cover most common failures.

If you need information on your system and want to view service videos go to this link: They are also the people to call if there's a problem. These systems are much more common in the marine industry and ITR is helpful with troubleshooting over the phone because a failure at sea precludes a service person from "driving out" to fix the problem.
