I must have to much time on my hands. I stumbled across a thread on the forum discussing poor headlights on some 2014 and older FW models. It's a good read (all 16 pages and counting) and I learned quite a bit. Mr_D's caution about fakes took on some new meaning.
I have been messing with cars, boats, motorcycles, airplanes and other toys for many years. I have bought my share of aftermarket parts mostly with good success. One thing I learned on headlights however is a manufacture may make DOT approved headlights but they can look identical but not all be the same in quality and meet different testing standards. It gets complicated. I have not yet had a chance to check out my new headlights at night but did find out the company that made them sells 2 or 3 models. These different models are tested to different standards and approved as such. Will this make a difference in quality?? I'm not sure but very possibly. One thing to look for if you buy from a trusted seller is are they CAPA
The ones I bought from Rockauto are not however they do sell some that are from the same manufacture for twice the money or in my case approximately $100 each. At the time I purchased them I was not aware of this. Just food for thought.
