2003 Monaco cayman Rev counter jumping around

Hi
I have a 2003 Monaco cayman with a Cummins is in the back and the rev counter on the dash constantly jumps around .
The alternator decided to stop charging last weekend on a 150 run and when the alternator stopped charging the rev counter was perfect .it the decided to start charging again without doing anything and the rv counter started jumping around again .

Any help please
