2003 National Dolphin LX Living room slide quit working

Have a 2003 National Dolphin LX. Living room slide has quit working. when I activate control switch to extend the slide I hear a loud chatter and slide will move a few inches and stop. I am able to get slide back into closed position....Slide has always worked flawlessly in past. Bedroom slide functions Ok so batteries are not the issue. Can anyone help?:

If it's a power gear slide setup, it sounds like the gear is worn out. Usually it's the housing (made of aluminum) that holds the gear shaft is what wears out. There are gears in there that move it out and a different set that move it in. That's why it will work one way and not the other. I've had to replace a couple of mine over the years. Not cheap, but shop around!! Mine were not too hard to replace. Good luck Steve

Are you referring to the gear assembly that is attached to the slide out motor? If so can you buy the gear assembly separate from the motor?......Tov

I couldn't find a place that would sell them separate, so I had to buy the complete assembly. Steve

Thanks for your past help. I removed the old slideout motor assembly. I can't get the bolt holes in the new center shaft motor to align with the driveshafts on either end. The driveshafts are about a half turn off from lining up with the bolt holes in the slideout motor. Can I turn the driveshafts with a wrench to align the bolt holes or can I plug in the 12V electric and turn the motor shafts to line up the bolt holes? I am new to this and don't want tear something up....Tov

Yes, you can move the shafts with a wrench, but move both of them the same amount, or close to it so they won't be out of line when you put the slide in.

Yes, you can "bump" the motor too, but I found that turning the shafts with a wrench is more controllable!!

Job is finally finished. Was able to turn the driveshafts and line up the bolt holes. Slideout is working....I notice the rails look very dry with some rust showing. Should the rails be lubed? If so, with what and how.......Thanks to everyone for your help. This forum saves me a lot of money. This old, retired Vietnam Vet greatly appreciates it....Tov

Congratulations!! Job well done. I always lube my slide mechanisms with a dry lube. Keeps everything from getting a build up on it.

Send a message via ICQ to Fred and Bonnie
X2 on the dry lube, do a search for LPS products.
