2004 Fleetwood Floor Renovation Completed!

Here are the before and after photos of our November floor renovation project. Carpet out - new luxury vinyl floor installed. We originally were going to have it done for $7k at a dealer in Michigan but decided to tackle it ourselves. It was quite the job I must say and a few hiccups along the way. I would not suggest that you do it yourself unless you are an all around handyman You just never know what kind of problems you can run into and dealing with 4 slides. It was quite problematic at times.

Special thanks to Ernie Ekberg for his input on some things.

Looks really great! We also did our own floor installation in our Fleetwood. A little bit of a PITA and the doghouse was challenging, but we're happy with it. We went with allure but I really like the look of your tile.

Gorgeous job! I'm planning on doing something similar in a few months in our 2004 American Tradition, but I think I'll leave the galley area tile and just replace the carpet (if I can come up with a nice looking combination). I just don't want to face the demo needed to remove 50 sq ft of well-adhered clay tile!

Gary the biggest pain was demo of the laminate floor in the kitchen, entry and bath. The subfloor was glued down real well under the laminate and we basically had to chisel out that subfloor inch by inch. Took forever for that part. If you are going to raise the level of the floor to meet the tile make sure your slides will work with that if you have them. We tried to go over the laminate and raised the level of the rest of the floor and it was too high for the living area slide to clear that new height. That caused a whole week of work that had to be torn up and then start again.

Renovation looks great, I am considering doing my floor in my 39J. How did you handle the carpet that was under the slide and do the slide glides leave marks on the tile?

Thanks, Doug

We did not take out the carpet on the slide. It's the only carpet left in the rig. I will put a strip of thin indoor outdoor carpet down with duck tape when running in the slide. Seems to help but still got some very fine scratches in some places but not noticeable.
