2005 40' Phaeton

We are looking at this coach. 350 HP Cat engine, Freightliner chassis, 6 new tires and new batteries. Just under 60K miles. Other than pictures, we don't know a lot about it yet. Looks to be well maintained as far as appearance goes. Asking price is $79K.
Anything to watch out for on this particular model? Or anything on this particular vintage of engine/chassis?

Get the complete maintenance history - before you go see it if possible.

Ask and Check about mice and droppings. We have looked at 4 Tiffin coaches and everyone had mice issues.
One a 40' was so infested a mouse ran across my wife's foot as we raised the bed. That coach had at least 20 traps in the coach and basement.
I know ANY coach could fall prey to mice, but so far I have only found them in Tiffin Phaeton, years 2002 thru 2005 35'to 40'

Thanks for the responses. We looked at it this afternoon. No evidence of mice, but I'll look closer next time. Overall, the coach looks pretty nice. We like the layout. It has a few osmetic issues, but nothing major. Any advise as to price? What sounds fair?

When I purchased ours a few years back, I did not have good maintenance records, so I started new with all the fluids, belts, thermostats etc. It has been a good RV for our needs.

CAT recommends a valve adjustment at 30K, then again at 100k.

Tiffin has had problems with the wet bay, drivers slide out leaking and the roof rails leaking. Tiffin will repair all three at their Alabama location if needed.

READ your manuals and get to know her the best you can!

I bought mine last year, traded at a dealer. No problems that weren't related to a 10 year old mh that had been used. Had to replace the water valve as it was leaking by and filling the fresh tank. Tiffin parts had the valve in stock and on the way to me very quickly,
In the water bay, if the floor is plastic or fiberglass, the repair has been done.

Give Tiffin a call with the VIN and they will readily help you with the known issues 'big three' that rver98 mentioned. Applicability, if corrected already, warranty status if not, etc.

Nadaguides is a good place to start. Usually the price without any options will give you a good idea. Remember though, the dealer needs to make a profit.

Might I add you're only two hours away from the Tiffin factory!

Good luck

Well, we ended up buying it for $70K. It has a few minor issues, but we will get those attended to. Now all we have to do is sell the Endeavor.
