2005 Monaco Diplomat won't start
Hi, let me start by saying that where I am has been freezing (0 to 20) and today it's about 33. Started the mh last week and everything was fine, today not so good. When I turn the key to on to watch the wait to start light, all the idiot lights came on, the Neutral light looked like it had a # symbol. There was an usual sound not like the usual low air warning. When I turned the key to start, the alarm and all lights went out and nothing happened. Also, the 18" of snow on the roof is melting, wondering if something is/was wet. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks

Are you plugged into shoreline or can you start the generator? You likely have a set of dead batteries. In any case, press and hold your aux start button while trying to start and see if it turns over.
I don't know if your generator or shoreline charges your engine batteries on and 05 model.
If you have a voltmeter check both banks of batteries and I bet the engine batteries are down,. Hopefully they didn't freeze.

Jiggle the gear selector and see if it is a problem with the neutral safety switch.

Thanks for getting back with a response so quick. This is my second response to you, first is out there somewhere. Think you are correct on your evaluation. When back out to the rig and panel says house batteries 11.1 and chassis batteries at 12.5. Turned the key to on and everything ok for afew seconds, then back to the issue. Then I pushed the battery boost switch for afew and turned the key to on and everything was ok for afew minutes. I ran the generator about 2 hrs. before I tried the engine and she started and ran fine. I'm gonna give it afew hours and try it later. And yes the on board charger has always kept the batteries charged. Thanks again

You might also want to check the 12 volt connections near the starter. I had the exact same symptoms on my 06 and it was a loose wire at starter (clean and tighten)...

Did you have the rv plugged in? If not, cold weather will find or kill a weak battery. Using the Aux start button brought all batteries online and you were then able to start it. A couple more hours on the generator would be nice and then I would turn the battery switch off so there are no parasitic drains such as the steps. It does not take much to kill a sick battery.

"timeforus".....Your coach DOES not charge the engine batteries when plugged into shore power, as delivered from the factory. You need to add a TrikLStart or other type of battery charger that charges the engine batteries from the house batteries.
You may have other issues, like a bad battery, but if the coach sat for a period of time, the engine batteries will go dead.

totally agree with Dutch Star Don.
I keep to trickle chargers on my house and coach batteries in cold weather. $20.00 a piece at walmart. I also put a engine block heat cord on my engine. That way the oil is warm before trying to start.

OP, while weak batteries are a concern, to help getting the diesel engine to start easier, plug in the engine block heater while you have the generator running. A warm engine starts much better.

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. Got something going on, just not sure. First the rig has been plugged in for weeks and started last week. Today I started the gen. and watched the amps reading on the remote panel jump higher than what it was reading while on shore power. Just walked out to the rig and house batteries read 11.0v, chassis batteries read 13.5v. She should be cranking away instead of going dead after I turn the glow plugs on twice. I'll check the condition of the house batteries as soon as it gets warmer than 30.
When I had the gen. running and shut the charger switch off. amps used on the remote panel read 2 amps and when I turned the charger back on the panel read 12 amps.

Your symptoms do not add up.
With the generator running the house batteries should have been at the higher voltage.
Your amp readings with the charger on and off do match up. I suspect you may have the battery readings switched in your mind.
A voltmeter across the battery banks would be in order. I would grab a jumper cable and connect the positive lead of each bank together to get that 11 volt bank up before it freezes. You can sort out the charging system later if necessary.

Turned on the engine block heater this morning and let it run for a few hours. Surprisingly the temp. outside got up to 44. Checked all batteries with a volt meter and all 6volt batteries read 6.1 and 1.22 to 1.24 on the hydrometer. Both 12volt batteries read 12.2v and both read 1.24. After these test got into rig and tried starting, cranked over very slowly. Then I used the battery boost switch (twice) and she fired up much faster. Hoping that all the issues were due to the extreme cold temperature. By the way, the on board display reads house batteries at 11.1 and chassis batteries at 12.5 with the charger at a floating status.

Pull the batteries and take them somewhere and have them load tested.
