2005 Southwind sofa bed mattress
I recently purchased a 2005 SouthWind 7Kmiles. I guess the sofa bed probably had that much sleeping hours. The sofa bed mattress worn down. I guess it has coils in the mattress. When you sleep on it, its sinks in the middle. Any one know a good place for a replacement I appreciate your help!

Most sofa/bed mattresses are a compromise because they have to fold up and tuck into the sofa frame. You might think of stiffening the sagging springs in the frame, if that's the problem, and toss an air mattress on top for sleeping. You could also contact the original manufacturer for a replacement mattress, but be prepared for sticker shock.

Hi Fleetwood ex... bummer ... I was planning to get the memory foam but now hearing you say it cant fold down is a dissapointment. So it wont fold down even if you remove the original mattress?

if you remove the mattress it will fold up with the memory foam only, but we just roll up the foam and put it in the bedroom when traveling with the kids and grandkids

The sleeper sofa mattress in our 1998 Southwind is pretty bad as well. I found the following web site:
The Ultimate Guide to Buying a Sofa Bed Mattress
If it had been up to me, I would have bought a replacement mattress from them long ago. However, my DW thought we wouldn't use the sleeper enough to be worth spending the money. So far, in 3 seasons, we brought our then 11 year old grandson along on a one-week trip and that's the only time we have used it. Even though he's not very heavy, he said the mattress wasn't very good.
I may yet buy that replacement mattress. I would hate to ask someone to sleep on that original mattress. It probably was junk when new.

The negatives, after 5 years there is definitely a permanent dip under our hips and the center is higher and firm as it was originally. The biggest issue is the WEIGHT. I've never had a mattress as heavy as this! It takes two to change the sheets, I have to lift a corner and brace it on my knee while pulling the bottom sheet on!
I know a sofa bed mattress is thinner, but I'd definitely be checking the weight of any mattress I'd buy to install in a sofa bed. Also I wonder how it would handle being folded up for long periods of time, will the fold really spring back or take a permanent 'crease' as ours has taken a dip?? By the way, our 'dip' pops back level when out of bed, so we can't take it back for a refund (they offered free replacement if it didn't remain flat) but it is noticeable when laying on it. There are spots softer and stiffer than other areas of the mattress.

The sofa in my coach uses an air mattress. Maybe you could retrofit one on yours.

I got a really nice foam mattress from Sears last year for ours. It folds up and is much more comfortable than the old spring mattress.

I noticed as well that when the sofa bed is extended out the only main support for the mattress is two cables from front to back in an "X" pattern. has anyone done any retrofit to give the mattress ore support?
