Angry 2006 Georgetown Step Issue

Does anyone know where I might get a used or new fan gear for my steps on my motorhome. The steps will extend and when they retract will vibrate several times before they lock in the retracted position. I have taken the steps apart and found that the last three teeth on the fan gear are damaged. After calling the manufacture they tell me that the gear changed its design in 2007 and later models. The gear I need is discontinued. Seems rather severe to replace the whole step system for one gear. Any help would be nice.

What brand? Kwikee made many back then. Might be Lippert now. I recently replaced my motor and the parts were easily found on amazon.

I just happen to be filing some literature and came across the paperwork for my Lippert step. The blow up parts diagram shows 3 different gears that they used back in mid 2000's. There is mention of one of the gears that is not available anymore and if it needs to be replaced, you have to replace the entire step. Seems excessive, but that's is what the mfg is recommending. The other gears are available. I'm speculating, possibly a bad design or something, but not sure.

If that is the gear you're talking about, then unless you can find one at a salvage yard, I think replacement is the only option.

I had the same issue with my step motor. I "had" a couple older motors and arms, etc, but they got tossed. Ordered a new motor from Amazon for $ 40.00. Solved my problems.

Step Problem Georgetown 2006

Hi: First thanks for the response to my step issue. They are SCS/Frigate steps. This company was bought out by Lippert so I would guess they are Lippert steps. I do not know why they changed the design of the gear on my steps but they did. So I guess I will have to either replace the entire step system or see if I can get the gear made? Don't know what $$ that would cost. I have checked on Amazon and they do have some parts for Lippert steps but no gear like I need.

The gear

I bought the fan gear and modified it to match the worn gear that was original. Cut the notch, add the piece to duplicate the hole location.Done!!
