2006 Mandalay Smart Wheel problem

I cannot find the fuse for my Mandalay. Wipers run even with the switch off and I have no power on the smart wheel.

The manuals indicate that the fuse is in the converter box bay but none of the fuses it there indicate that they are for the smart wheel.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Look for the smartwheel control box ( black in color ) there's a 3 amp fuse on the bottom left on the board of this unit. The fuse may not be your prob unfortunately. My cruise & horn just quit ( I was parked and trying to warm up my Cummins ISX on fast idle ) & the cruise light went out on the dash & my horn quit. I wasn't driving or moving the wheel.
Good luck

I have had troubles with the smartwheel on my HR. You can be driving down the road and the wipers will come on and won,t shut off, the horn will honk, cruise will quit etc. From the reasearch I have done you can check all the plugs in the harness in the steering colunm for loose but in most cases it is caused by the smartwheel controler box. Some are located in the outside fuse panel below driver seat, mine was in the dash behind the am/fm radio. I have seen where some others that have had problems have unplugged the controler and replugged it . I guess this reboots it. If you google smartwheel they have an informative site. Hope that helps.

Smart Wheel

Thanks to you for the help. I found the control box left front of the driver seat under the dash. Three million miles of excess wire bundled and strapped to the bulkheads had to be unstrapped and unfolded before one could even see it.

I found it I unbolted it and I checked it according to the troubleshooting guide supplied by Mandalay. The guide indicates pin numbers on the connectors but never any indication of how the pins are numbered. The guide also providers a drawing of the circuits but no wire colors so it is very hard to trace the wires. I have the guide electronically if anyone needs it, I can send it via e-mail.

The Smart wheel fuse is located in the hydraulic bay and not in the inverter bay as indicated by the owners manual and the Frightliner manual. The fuse incidentally was fine.

The control box or the slip ring on the steering wheel column (I am fairly sure) is the problem. I have an extend warranty but they won't pay for the part if I replace it so I will hire a professional and let them pay him too.

The biggest problem is finding a professional who know what he is doing. We are not blessed with good shops near Myrtle Beach SC.

I had a problem with mine in a 07 allegro bus and I found it was moisture that got to the control board becaues they installed on the floor under the drawers in the center console facing up and if something spilt it would drip into it so i had to replace it but installed it out of harms way and its been fine since.Ours started with the horn and lights going off and on by them selves to the point we thought we had an alarm system that we didn,t know about.

Most of the smart wheel issues we run into on monacos is the clock spring in the column it shorts out then causes all kinds of issues, to test we took and old clock spring and made a jumper out of it to go straight from the touch pad to the connector at the bottom of the stearing column, 75% of the time that is the issue, if this is the issue you are having unplugging and plugging the control box can reset it but the next time you drive the issue will come back.
Hope this helps!!!
