2011 canyon star good buy or no

I have the opportunity to by a 3000 mile used canyon star model 3411. It is the ford chassis with a few nice options like washer dryer, upgraded floors, oven, 22.5 aluminum wheels. This is a 3 slide unit. I can purchase this unit for about 95k. In like new condition is this a good deal? NADA says yes but what is the market like on used motorhomes? Thanks in advance. I have an older national RV seabreeze I would be selling. Rob

Sounds like a good deal. We've had our 3411 since last August and love it. Very few problems--mostly minor. If you do buy it, check to make sure the B.I.R.D. is correctly wired. Mine wasn't, so my chassis battery wasn't getting charged when plugged into shore power. Quick fix at dealer. Good luck!

Bob, thanks for the reply. I was wondering what a new canyon star might cost. I know what the list is but was wondering what the selling price might be. If I am only saving 10k or so I might want to buy new. Thanks, Rob

Rob - Bear in mind the depreciation drop the minute you leave the dealer with a new motorhome. However the base list price w/o options on that unit is around 135k so 95k is 30% off base MSRP. If you are buying from dealer, ask for a price on new and compare with the used price. Normally you should be able to buy new for approx. 25% off list. Doesn't sound too bad IMO with options you mentioned but I would dicker a little. As a side note, we love our Canyon Star.

Motorhome is on consignment. There has been one offer. It was 90k and they turned it down. Asking 99K so I figure it can be had for 95, I have not made an offer. Thanks for the help, Rob

Well, $95k is every penny it is worth on the used market, so I wouldn't call it a "bargain". But it's a fair price, I guess. You ought to be able to buy that coach brand new, with a 12 month warranty, for around $105-$110k.

I would have a real hard time putting out near 100k for any gasser, period, new, used, or whatever.

At a hundred k, you're solid into nice used diesel pusher money. I've had both, there is no comparison. Leaf springs are for UPS trucks.

Not sure why the previous posters wish to disparage gassers.....that is a huge segment of the RV market.

Frankly, I would have to agree. Such a significant difference between gas & diesel coaches, it's hard to imagine paying $95k for any gas powered motorhome.

The original question was whether or not it's a good deal. In my opinion: No, it is not a good deal based on what the $95k would buy in a diesel model.

looks like list new is about 144k so it sounds fair to me
the diesel may be abetter deal if you like it my self i prefer gas
less maintanace and gas is a more basic chassis when guys start dissing 1 system over thr other it s why i stopped going to car shows if you dont drive a 55-57 chevy you may as well stay home ,personally you couldn't give me one God bless the guys that love em but i dont want a diesel or a chevy

Well that explains it then... lol.

Sorry Brian, I don mean to diss anyone or anything.

Still, at the 100k mark, or even at 80, a used DP will be right in there.
I enjoyed my gasser, really. And it was worth every penny of the 36k I paid for it, and I got all that back out of it when I traded it in. but there is just no comparison to the quiet smooth ride of a DP.

Guess you wouldn't like my Chevy 2500HD Duramax turbo-diesel then!
