2011 Fleetwood Discovery 42a - VS - 2012 Forest River Berkshire 390BH
Hello to all, I'm in a middle of a huge dilemma. I previously owned a 2007 Forest River Georgetown gas rig, sold it because we thought we were done with road trips. BUT, we had a SuRpRiSe and now with a 7month little girl, I REFUSE TO TAKE HER ON AN AIRPLANE for future travels - at least until she is older of course. We live in west TX and have family in Seattle and NY. My parents won't get on a plane if their life depended on it and my mom will not travel unless I'm with them. SO - with that said, I'm in the market again. But it's been so difficult in finding the right coach. It's either the floor plan is not what we like, or the price is just too high. For instance, I was about to purchase a 2017 Hurricane 34J - but realized you can use the front bunk if you pull out the coach to sleep in, it's all too tight. So we walked away.
Then I saw and fell in LOVE with the 2016 Coachman Cross Country 404RB - but man are they pricey! Even though MHSRV has them at a great price.
With all that being said, I'm done to 2 other options -
01.) 2011 Fleetwood Discovery 42A - the floor plan is amazing, but I've read a bit on how the rear bunks can get hot because of the engine in the rear. I'm also concerned because it's a 2011, the maintenance on it. The price is not bad, it's around $139K with only 39,000 miles on it.
02.) 2012 Forest River Berkshire 390BH - I like the floor plan but concerned the bunks are too small. It has a cummins engine and 43,000 miles on it - they've negotiated the price down to about $140K - so price they are the same. Also, with these miles on it, not sure what type of maintenance I'll have to put into it.
I can write and write and write all my concerns, but just trying to get some insight on what's bang for the buck.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to read my post and all insight and tips are greatly and sincerely appreciated.
Happy RV'ing!
