2012 Winnebago Vista "F" Braking

Have my eyes of a real nice 2012 Winnebago Vista "F" with FORD Chassis, V10 for the right price. Does the braking system work by downshifting the transmission? From what I've read I think I've understood that these FORD chassis gassers have built into them that when you tap on the brake pedal—like going down hill—it downshifts to use the engine/transmission to help you slow down. Or do you have to manually use the gear shift to down shift?

Can you guys help me understand how this works and is it effective or do you just burn up a lot of brake pads? Do you switch to tow mode when climbing or going down a hill or what?

I just spoke with a salesman & he spoke with his technician and they said they're not familiar with tapping on the brakes and it downshifts? They said as far as they know you just use the brakes.

My understanding, I have the Workhorse chassis but have been researching newer coaches on the Ford chassis, when in tow/haul mode when you apply the brake it will downshift one gear. The dealer is wrong and the last thing to do is just use the brakes, especially down a grade. I use the brake to downshift my Workhorse but there are time where I need to quickly get into a low gear for a grade. For example, if you peak a hill and there is some level before the downgrade, the transmission will up shift. However, you need to get into the lower gear at the top of the grade, not partway down. When this happens, I manually select the gear as braking to shift takes too long on a steep downgrade and you can quickly overspeed and then not be able to select the lower gear because the computer will detect an over rev of the motor and will therefore not downshift.

Hopefully this all makes sense. You will figure it out along with which gear works best on any particular % grade.

The 2012 F53 chassis has the Torqshift tranny with tow/haul mode. Press the brake pedal at the top of a downgrade to activate, and it downshifts to help keep the speed down. You may still have to use the service brakes - it's not magic. It just saves you from having to manually downshift. and of course helps out the drivers who don't know enough to do that on their own.
You can find videos and discussions of tow/haul online, including YouTube. Maybe the dealer needs to view them too.
