The UFO thing was just liven up the conversation but the numbers were not made up. Using the search string I posted those are the number a Google search returned. If I only search IRV2 postings the results changed some but still not much of an issue to classify it as significant. Considering the F53 has been around I guess over 25 years now the number the search return is pretty low. Something else to consider is the yearly F53 production exceeds the production numbers for the class A diesel chassis.
"Spartan Wheel Bearing Failures" - 1,120 results
"Freightliner XC Wheel Bearing Failures" - 3,010 results
"E450 Wheel Bearing Failures" - 95 results
"F53 Wheel Bearing Failures" - 468 results
The only way to know with any level of certainty would be if the various OEM's posted failure numbers and that isn't going to happen anytime soon.
Meanwhile "UFO sightings" - 10 results on IRV2.com.

Your right. They tried putting blocks between the rollers and the band to prevent those flat spots, then they started having failures of tapered roller bearings. That became prevalent on the MTM front discharge mixers in the 90's.
I got roped into going to Ga. and bring one back on a Landoll. They sent a new set of rollers and a return crate for the ones on the mixer and the blocking that they used.
I'm just repeating what I was told by the guys that loaded and helped me lock the mixer down.

To the OP,
I’m wondering what we’re the symptoms leading up to the failure? Noise, vibration, steering issues? Curious, ‘cuz mine has a vibration that I’m trying to diagnose.
Thanks,
Curt

While doing some work on my brakes, I came across this company that can replace spindles. Just in case someone welds their bearings to the spindle in the future.

I used them Once. (They did only rear axles back then.) It was For my 89 F450.
The bill was about $1000,....back in the 1990s
That was only for the axle stub and labor.
I'd hate to see their 2018 price.

I had a 2015 hurricane on the ford chassis. Was driving from California to Nashville and all the sudden in the middle of nowhere in Texas, I heard a loud pop from the front. Yup the front bearing failed and was melted. Big time inconvenience. Had to leave my MH in Texas for about a week.
