225/70 19.5 as spare for coach with 245/70 19.5 tires?

I have a brand new Michelin XRV 225/70 tire, never been on the ground. Any reason not to use it as emergency spare for coach with 245/70 tires?

If needed, I would shuffle tires to keep a matched pair on the steer axle.

Comments? Thanks!

Sure, it'd work fine in an emergency. I'd go to the Michelin tire tables and check the load capacity so you can adjust the air pressure to get it closer to what your 245's are carrying. Also check the difference in circumference and be aware that if you use it on the rear duals the larger tire will be carrying the major part of the load on that corner. In a pinch it will definitely get you to a tire shop where a like one could be acquired or the bad one repaired.

The 225/70 is 31.9 inches tall and the 245/70 is 33.0 inches tall. Quite a difference! I see steering issues if you install it on the front and a loading issue if you put it on the rear.
Any luck in getting the correct size for a spare? Some time depending of the tire, some shops would give a discount on a trade-in.

IMO, it's fine. Sure it's not perfect and there's some difference in size but you could still certainly drive like that (you probably get a bigger difference in ride height just from uneven weight). In all likelyhood, you'll never even use the spare anyway so I really wouldn't worry about it.

see, I'd actually shuffle to put the smaller tire ON the steer axle; most motorhomes aren't loaded near their front axle max anyway, and if you it on the back, that dual "pair" will have a short tire and a tall one, which I would think would lead to uneven loading and all kinds of ugly things.
