275 HP Cummins diesel, strong enough??
One of the new class As I'm looking at is a Tiffin Breeze 31BR. It is a 31' coach, but only comes with the 275 HP Cummings which has Peak Torque (lb – Ft. Max Net): 560 @ 1,600 RPM.
Most 33'-34' class A come with the 340 HP Cummings. So, will I feel under powered with this set up, even at 31'? Mind you, I have no experience with a diesel engine. thanks

I have a 5.9, 300 hp Cummins. It is not a rocket ship, but drive all over the NW pulling a trailer or car with zero issues. My coach is 36’, and I drive 63-65. I honestly do not feel underpowered. I travel with friends with longer coaches with more hp and tq, and they are certainly not waiting for me.

Good to know, thanks. I guess I was concerned because one of the benefits of going to a DP was stronger engine than the V10, but this has less HP than the V10

Same hp as my 1999 V-10 in my 35' Winnie. Do wish I had a little more at times. You should be fine with the Cummins (no g) diesel.

It would be more useful to know the approximate unloaded weight of the coach you are looking at vs. the length. My first coach was a 36', no slide DP, powered by a 5.9L 230 HP and it did just fine. Many trips up to the Rocky mountains. If I remember correct the weight of the coach was maybe 21K lbs.

Good point. Don't have specific coach specs but here is from their website...

Unless I'm not seeing correctly, something about those "specs" does not seem right to me. The total of the GAWRs (front and rear) appears to be LESS than the GVWR of the coach. Not sure how Tiffin can rate the coach for more weight than the sum of the axle ratings.
NOTE: this would not be the first time a manufacturer's website has incorrect info, and is why they put small print disclaimers in the brouchures.

I believe that is the new V-8 diesel engine that Nissan is using in the Titan trucks. To me, after driving with the 6.7L in my RAM 2500 and the 6.7L in my F-550 MH, I would think it is going to be under powered in an RV. The RAM truck was 380hp and the MH is 300hp. I'm looking at ways right now to bring that up to the newer F-550 engine rating of 330hp to help.

Something you might also want to keep in mind if you plan on towing a vehicle or trailer behind the coach. You only have a towing capacity of 3500 lbs, assuming you have the coach weight maxed out.

I disagree with the others. This coach will be underpowered IF you drive out west in the mountains on hot summer days and try to pull a car or trailer.
Also, Steve hit on a very good point. You will be limited on the amount of stuff you can carry and the weight of the car or trailer you can tow.

I have 230 HP 5.9 12 valve and I go any where I want to go. Sometimes only 25 MPH, but I get there. My coach is 23000 pounds plus and I tow a 3000 pound car. I am never in a hurry so I don't worry about the HP, I just get in the right lane and let the world go by. Sometimes I have to pull out and pass a Semi-Truck that is going slower than I and sometimes they pass me.
