44/11 Goodyears 3000 miles
Just bought this coach. The tires are just like new no cracking or checking. If I was to follow common thinking it's almost time to throw these out and get new......3000 miles on tires that cost this kind of money? If they are no checking or cracked why not run them?
Seriously is this really an issue? We run manufactured home toters that spend the better part of their time WAY over loaded, run in dirt/stone/mud/over tree stump's/jumping onto and off concrete pads daily and when the day is done the guys run these 75/80 mph getting home and I can tell you no one checks the air they get it if they are flat that's about it, it would really be difficult to put any tire through more abuse than these get. I looked at these tires. They are over 15 years old and still some life left.
RVer's as a whole could not take better care of their tires and are throwing them away after 7 years regardless of miles? What am I missing?

I agree that most people change tire way to early. If you are concerned take the rig to a Goodyear dealer and have them inspected. I know people that have 10 years on their tires.

I'd run them this year, but get new ones in 2018.
Your tires were made in the 44th week of 2011 so
you can go a little more. Beyond that, it is your
gamble. If you loose the gamble, it can be catastrophic.
Plus, do you know that they have always been
inflated correctly ?

I would assume the issue would be dry rot. Can that even be tested for? The outsides that visible are perfect.

What goes wrong with them? I do know these have been covered the better part of their life. I also installed the tire tracker TT500 system so will know if they are loosing air or heating up.

Tread separation.
Side wall failure.
Mostly catastrophic at this age.

Tires can look great, but becoming apart internally (separating). The reason RV tires don't hold up as well is there use. They sit for long periods of time and then pushed hard for short periods of time. The oils in the tires don't get circulated like they do in a passenger car tire that keeps them supple.
When talking MH tire longevity, many feel 6-7 years is the magic mark, yet many others will push their tires to the 8-10 year mark if they're in good shape. When people are unsure, I always tell them to buy the two front tires, limiting the initial cash outlay and getting a level of confidence that your steer tires are new.
I know people often say to take them to the dealer and have them inspected. To me, that is a waste of time and money. Most employees at tire stores are far from tire experts, other than swapping out tires. If you're going to have them removed and inspected, you might as well just buy new ones by the time you pay for the labor of dismounting.
Lastly, when a tire separates or blows, it will often cause some serious damage to the RV. Many are not willing to take that risk and replace them at 6-7 years.

Whacked a curb
Ran under-inflated
Ran over inflated
Wet air from compressor
Parked/stationary for long periods
Simple truth is:
RV tires age out vs wear out.

I have a good friend that lost a steer tire at 8 years old. Coach totaled. Luckily, nobody hurt or killed.
I've had my coach since new and it came with the Good Years. The coach has always been stored inside. I don't use any chemicals to wash the tires. I've monitored the tire pressure with sensors from day 1. When coach was 4 years old, I had right rear blow. No warning, nothing. Sounded like a bomb. Luckily, coach was completely controllable, but over $8k in damages. Took wheel well, part of the slide and a bunch of wiring. I don't know why it didn't take the air bags, but it didn't.
I now replace steers at 6 years and drives at 7-8 years now.

WE all know that its a common rule to change tires once they've reached their use by date irrespective of mileage and/or visible condition/appearance. Just not worth chancing your safety otherwise.
Agree its a "hard pill to swallow" in terms of ownership cost but at-least we all know it going in.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Great info. Couple things.
These are Goodyears after everything I have read they seem to be not the tire to have. So if replacing just the fronts I would be mixing brands since I am not going to go back to these. It is 6 if I change them.
Ok so 44/11 tire date come this Oct. they will be 6 years old. I believe the owner had then installed in 2013 or 2014. One trip back and fourth to Florida (3000 miles). Always covered never any tire protectant on them. Very tough decision!!

I was a Sr vehicle technician for FedEx for 30 years now retired .we used Goodyear tire exclusive on all of our equipment. We recapped all of our tires and Goodyear warranty our casings for 10 years . Our steer tires were capped on virgin casings the rest were capped many times. Hope this puts your mind to ease

Individual risk tolerance. Tire failure on a driveable RV can be catastrophic as compared to a towable. Blow a front at highway speed, well we've seen the videos and the end result. Blow a rear and the potential for damage to a support system or below floor storage area is pretty high.

It does. We have a Bandag recap shop here in town I am going to give them a call also and see what their thoughts are. If any one would know every tire made it would be them. And I would assume if anyone was going to assess a tire it would be them. I can not see them recapping a junk tire.
