45 Foot Class A in California

I have a CT drivers license, in CT you do not need any special drivers license for a motorhome. We do travel coast to coast and are moving from a 39 ft to 45 ft so I am checking for issues in each state.

California requires residents to have a class B but for out of state drivers:

Out-of-State Drivers:*Non-residents visiting California may not operate a motorhome over 40 feet in length unless in possession of an out-of-state driver license authorizing the operation of that vehicle.

I read this as if your state license allows then you are all set. Has anyone looked into this?

That is correct, you CT license is what rules.

That being said, I know many many people that have an over 40' coach that live and are registered in CA and DO NOT have the endorsement. They have never been stopped. I know it's not legal, just reporting what I know. If they have an accident, I'm sure there will be questions asked.

If you are legal in your home state, you are legal in all states. California does have some roads that are restricted to 40 ft. no matter what kind of license you have.

Reciprocity... Your state license is fine driving through California! The Class B only applies to state residents.

You follow the rules in your home state. most states do not enforce any licence rules as they probably don't even understand their own rules/laws
