Hello All, I posted the following question on the Escapees website, but have not received any responses, so I thought I'd post it here:

I was wondering if anyone has ever been stopped by a law enforcement officer for driving a 45' motorhome off the "designated" routes found in some states. Just curious if anyone out there cares about this particular regulation. Thanks!

When this issue first came to light in CA, there were quite a few posts relating to CA, but rarely a post about other states.

There has not been much, if anything reported recently.

The only restriction would be a highway load limit. We have lots of those in Pennsylvania. Have to be watchful of those old bridges with load limits.

Unfortunately, Tom, Kalifornia has a regulated highway route for motorhomes over 40'. It is the same as for some long big-rig setups. They are restricted to special major highways, and you can go a mile off of them to get fuel. Sounds like no such restriction else ware. Sweet! Now I have to research Texas DL law on these rigs!

Post a link to a road map that shows the regulated highway routes for motorhomes over 40'.

Thanks Cruzer and doc.

Pennsylvania has road restrictions but not related to length. PA's road restrictions are by weight. All roads with a weight limit have signs stating the weight limit. Many are 10-15 ton limits. Mostly because of bridges that were not built for heavy vehicles.

Locally here north of Pittburgh I can travel a road in my gasser but my buddy can't in his Allegro Bus.

The PA state police will quickly ticket a vehicle violating the road weight limit.

It would be great if PA had maps of restricted roads such as CA has. I have often seen tractor trailers trying to back up after realizing they were on a road with a weight limit.
