5 Star Tuning of PCM on Ford V10

Reading articles on performance increases of hp and mpg from 5 StarTuning out of SC for Ford V10 Gas. Does anyone have first hand experience with this and any noticed improvements?

The 5 Star on my 2014 Bounder is good for about 1/2mpg increase. With the 5 Star the coach discovered it had a 4th gear the 5th to 3rd downshifts every time we went over an overpass are reduced in frequency, that is the 5000+ rpm wail that the coach makes when it downshifts from 65mph while on cruise. Engine responsiveness is improved.

I have seen the same on my HR. Love the way it now shifts and am glad I spent the money on it. I opinion it was well work the money and DW likes it so that really makes it worth it.

X3. For Ford 2015 and earlier V10 chassis with 5 speed transmission the combination of slight fuel economy improvement and better management of the automatic transmission gear selection makes it worth the investment.

Had 2 SCT tuners

Some say its the greatest thing since...
BUT It only adds 5-15 HP. Torque about the same. See their graphs.
Acceleration shifting is improved, but 5th stays in too long going over hills, losing far too much speed. To get it out of top gear, you really got to give it a lot of gas. When it finally shifts down then MPG really drops. Improvement in MPG, 0 to .1.
$400 for a tuner is a lot of gasoline (now over 200 gallons). Just push the pedal a little more to get the same effect.
The real problem is under powered, over weight RV's. Gas engines have the best torque range NOT in the cruise range.

On my 2011 the shifting has improved substantially. CC (Cruise Control) will still do the 5th to 3rd screaming downshift once in a while so I either turn CC off for the hills, or while still on, I'll push the pedal a little and help it stay in 4th longer usually avoiding the 5-3 downshift.
No noticeable change in mileage... but then again I don't drive myself nuts by checking MPG too often.

Power feels stronger and it has more get up n go than it did without. But that extra power might cost you some MPG.

IMHO, very worth it!

+1. Improved bottom end grunt + much better shifting. CC is a little bit of an issue but not enough to make me want to switch back.

I just had mine installed on a 2006 V10 38'er (only 28K on rig) after driving across the US towing a tandem tow loaded with Harley dresser and a Kia van.

I bought it to alleviate the slow shifting on hills, high RPM in Cruise control on 'bumps' and to get a little better feel to the throttle.

I am happy with my decision to date. I've only driven from SC to MD after the install, but liked the shift points, throttle response.... when you step on the gas you feel like you are actually accelerating (seat of the pants driving).

As for 5 StarTuning..... I called from St. George, SC while driving NB I95 and said I'd like to stop by and get one. They gave me a great irv2 discount price and installed it in minutes. Great guys to deal with.

Drove my Rv over 6K miles so with the tune. I've no regrets. Better shifting made it worth the money. Horsepower is better, I've not noticed an increase in gas milage.

I installed mine about two weeks ago. Haven't driven it except for a 30 mile test drive, and the shifting was wonderful. It doesn't downshift going up small hills like it use too. The power increase is nice too, but that's not the reason I purchased it.

We'll be heading back to Texas for Christmas, so I 'll see if I get any type of improvement in fuel economy. Not really expecting it, but would be great if I did.

Working on tunes for the 6 speed options. Hoping to have everything done in the relatively near future. Will post much more information about the 6 speed as we get closer to release.
