50a 3 stage charger
Hi, in a previous thread I isolated that my Heart Freedom Combi Inverter/Charger is no longer charging my batteries.
So rather than replace the whole unit I'm thinking about buying a stand alone 3 stage charger. It seems like prices are all over the map.
Can you guys recommend a good charger for a relatively low price?

Good and cheap? Nope.
WFCO is cheap. But Progressive Dynamics is a great USA company. I install them. What DC amp output is yours? 50A is just the coach's 120V wiring.

I totally agree with jesilvas.
Stay far far away from WFCO. It's a POJ or POS whichever you choose to call it.
Progressive Dynamics Intelli-Power is the BEST!

It's 4x 6 volt deep cycle batteries set up for 12VDC.

I just bought a new 60 amp Progressive Dynamics Intelli-Power on ebay with pendant for a very reasonable price. If you look at all of them and watch the shipping cost, I believe it was cheaper on ebay than any other place on the web.

No, what is the amperage output of your current converter rated for? Usually it's 45A, 55A, 65A, or 75A.

It looks like the PD9200 series has 45a and 60a. Would I just us the 45a version?

For the money we buy the WFCO unit. I had a 45amp in a previous unit that went eight years before I sold the MH. Now I replaced a Magnatek in my Damon MH with another larger WFCO 3-stage unit. Extremely satisfied. No issues....none. Added a desulfator from BatteryMinder.
Rather than the quality of the product my experience sees more has to do with the quality of the wiring in the RV. Heavier wire equals reliability.

I can't seem to find any retailers. Are there any big chains that carry PD stuff?

You need to put back the same rated DC output as yours is now, within 5A or so. So a 45A now, means a 50A would be fine. Make sure wiring is up to the task too.
As far as going cheap: yes, WFCO are cheap and CAN last a while. But by the time you add the nice functions, the PD9200 series come out to the same price, for a better product, with all the options as the "upgraded" WFCO.

A search of WFCO problems and you will find why many of us would not want one. I had a problem caused by the factory miss-wiring our Progressive Dynamics which fried it, It was under warranty and I called on a Tuesday afternoon and had the replacement the next morning by FedEx. I fixed the wiring BTW.
