50A power adapter
Possibly a dumb question, but I'll try anyway. Our Vista is 30A service, and the dealer made a point of making sure we had a 50A dogbone before we left.
But the operator's manual states to not use an adapter to connect to 50A service.
I can't figure out why, as long as it's 110v and not 220. Can anyone explain where I'm wrong on this and how it could damage my Vista? 50A male to 30A female adapters seem pretty common, and like I said the dealer made sure I had one.
What am I missing?

50A to 30A adapter only uses ONE hot leg, the neutral and the ground (just like the 30A cord/plug does)
50A would be 'available' on that one Hot leg thru adapter/RV cord up to your RV AC Power Panel where the OEM 30A MAIN CB would be.
RV 30A MAIN CB would trip IF amp draw was in excess of 30A
Winnebago Lawyers CYA Language in Manual.
Do not use adapters to connect 30-amp systems to a 50-amp service or you may cause an overload on electrical system components
MAY CAUSE..... (Strictly Lawyers CYA)
RV MAIN 30A CB will trip before the CG Power Pedestal 50A CB so adapter and RV Power Cord will still be energized should RV MAIN 30A CB trip

The reason it’s dangerous is your rv could fry before the 50 amp post breaker would trip. A 30 amp post to a 50 amp rig the post breaker would trip.

Use it!
The adapter and power cord would still be protected at 50 amps by the pedestal. The RV power panel would still trip if RV pulled more than 30 amps.
I normally connect thru my 50 amp adapter when connecting my 30 amp RV. Better connection (bigger blades) and less voltage drop and often in better condition than 30 amp socket.

The potential of "frying" your RV by using a 50 to 30 amp adaptor is on par with winning the Irish Sweepstakes. You still have the main 30 amp breaker at the coach power panel that will protect the coach from the deadly 20 extra amps available.
Granted the ATS, power cord and anything else between the coach main breaker and the shore power breaker are exposed to extra 20 amps of a 50 amp circuit amps the risk of blowing out a steer tire on the way to the campground is many time higher the burning the coach down to the chassis frame rails.

I've had two previous coaches that were 30a. I've never had a need to connect to a 50a receptical. CG pedistal are 30a only or both 30a/50a.

Yes, but as someone else replied, I've usually found the 50 ampers to be in better condition. I always use the 50 amp if it's there and in better shape. The 30 amp main in the coach is going to trip if the load gets too high. Ours doesn't have the transfer switch so there's not much to go wrong between the pedestal and the main.

Thanks all for the responses. It's pretty much what I though, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

The op’s question was “why would the manual say not to do it”?

Easy, liability.
Are you going to direct the question to Hooligan, Mudfrog and vsheetz considering they also made no mention of the operator's manual?

Just looked at my manual and found this
"do not adapt a plug to connect to a receptacle for which it is not designed."
This does sound like it's implying that I should never use a 50/30 or 30/15 adapter. Either way, i'm sure Winnebago is just covering themselves. I've been around long enough to know it's nothing to be concerned about.

Saying not to adapt a plug for which its not designed can be interpreted as not adpting to something other then a campground receptacle.
Something like the dreaded, old 30 amp, 240 volt, 3 blade dryer/welder receptcal. You can't buy an adaptor for that.
